Well... yeah.  I think they always have.  But there's no way in hell the government is going to put that many people out of work at a time like this.  The union fight alone would be hellacious.

What do you think the odds are that this really wasn't "accidental?" I'll set the betting line at 50% to start.

If they're not needed at the airports why not use them for congressional security?

Having members of congress remove their shoes and belts every time they get to work might kill two birds with one stone.

I was cynical at first of statements like that, but it makes a lot of sense now that they are moving these machines to Federal buildings and non-airport locations.

While I agree with the point, this lawsuit is going nowhere and that brief is a childish piece of crap. He constantly uses over the top adverbs, cites wikipedia and blogs as sources, relies entirely too much on newspaper stories and generally comes across as whiny. Judges don't like that and it greatly detracts from how seriously they take a filing in a federal case.

Too bad because he has a point.

C'mon, Fark commenters... either the TSA is a bunch of retarded nincompoops doing a job that chimps could run circles around them in... or they're brilliant data interpreters, on the cutting edge of the US security mission.

I've never wavered

TSA is a group of pants-shiatting retarded monkeys, terrified of their own shadows and desperate for someone, anyone to validate them. Remember when they got different uniforms and badges to show a "professional appearance"?

They'll scream your 6 ounce can of shaving cream has to go "for safety" but chuck this obviously incredibly dangerous weapon into a trash can with a hundred others. They routinely miss real weapons, to the point where flipping a coin to see if someone has a gun is more reliable.

Their scanners are useless at best, dangerous at worst. They always (I'm 9 for 9) false positive on my left ankle, saying there's metal there. Never has been. As for usefulness, the Germans actually quit bothering, stating they were at best inconsistent and easily beaten.

TSA is a solution to a problem, all right. How do we give wannabe cops a job?

2013-10-21 05:30:00 PM
and they know that they are worthless.  That is why, in the last several years, they have attempted to expand their role to drug detection and detaining people who have warrants.  They are trying to justify their continued existence.  The TSA was sold to America as an anti-terrorism measure.  Not only has the TSA never caught a terrorist, but they are themselves proven to be criminals.

My original comment is based on the Original Subby's apparently new theory that something the TSA has an opinion on should be treated with gravitas.

Although, we DID have one guy claim he was a TSA agent, and that they weren't ALL bad.

Which is probably true, but he didn't exactly get a warm welcome here.

/TSA flat-out robbed a buddy of mine, so, screw 'em all.

2013-10-21 06:40:26 PM
Flying last week, the woman in security behind me has a mini temper tantrum over what was allowed in carry-on, what she had to remove from her bags, etc. She says, "well the airport in Wherever let me!" and the TSA girl -- early 20s, not exactly a Rhodes scholar -- says, "well our company must have different rules."

Our company. Because there isn't really a TSA, it's even worse: these are independent contractors. So not only are the rules maddening and overbearing, but they're different everywhere. And they get to make them up as they go. Huge PITA.

/I don't even take my bathroom stuff out of my carry-on anymore.

While his brief is over the top, his arguement that the TSA is using the wrong technology to do the job they are supposed to be doing is absolutely right on.

There is nothing the strip-search scanners do that cannot be done with less intrusive, and superior technology.

However, the guy who started the TSA does not work for that company, he works for RapidScan, so they keep buying his machines - therethebestdontcaknow?

If one needs proof that the TSA administration is both corrupt and incompetent, this sort of lays it all out for you.

But no one will ever pay attention, because 9/11 durr Turrruism durr.

Fear, it's not just for after midnight when you hear something under the bed....
