Clearly the solution is more guns and less regulation of them.  Well, it is the solution if you are retarded.

I'm guessing by "facts" you would mean knives and spoons were used in the shooting?

Dead kids? Hell, time to biatch about "gun control activists!!!"

Pretty sure a middle schooler 1. possessing a firearm in public without parental supervision and 2. bringing it to school is against the law enough.

As is driving intoxicated and hitting people over the head with a shovel, but I don't see everyone clamoring to get rid of cars and shovels.

When I finally get around to having kids, I'm beginning to wonder whether I should homeschool or invest in kid sized flak vests.

Well, we're off to a good start here.

walkerhound: As is driving intoxicated and hitting people over the head with a shovel, but I don't see everyone clamoring to get rid of cars and shovels.

If that's the analogy you're going for, some of the pro-gun types around here would fall in the same camp as people who think there ought to be no restrictions whatsoever on consumption of alcohol while driving. Because drunk people don't kill people, people kill people, or something.

If we could just get the people who think the Second Amendment is an unlimited license for anyone to arm themselves with anything all the time out of these threads, as well as the "ban all guns" people (who I'm including for the sake of fairness, since I'm told repeatedly they exist here, though I've yet to see any), it would be a lot less retarded around here.

My advice would be to look up the percentage of schools at which there are school shootings, and then calm down.

Relax. There are a ton of things I'm more concerned about as a parent of small school-age children. There are appropriate reasons to homeschool in certain cases but this is not one of them. Being worried about your kids all the time is the "cost of doing business." and it will happen about lots of things. That's the nature of externalizing your source of value. Its what makes you old and boring. Of course, you do want to pick a school with appropriate security procedures and training. And if you're an involved parent you'll naturally ask those questions and prod until you get the answers you'll need. But this shouldn't keep you up at night. Plenty of other things will. :-)

Universal background checks for all purchases public and private would be a good idea period. And so would keeping better tracks of criminals and maniacs trying to get weapons.  Regardless of any shootings or a lack thereof. You have to get more training and licensure to operate a ham radio than you do to get a gun. You don't need a school shooting to tell you that's messed up. And most U.S. gun owners agree because most gun owners are rational people who realize guns are tools and not toys.

This.

Plus, legal requirements for safe storage. Sorry, but a kid, teenager or not, should not get access to guns without supervision.

I'm just thankful that more weren't killed, and I'm saddened by the inevitable story that this kid was bullied relentlessly and had mental problems that weren't addressed.

What the fark is wrong with us?

Well, at least it would take them a minute or so to reload. Guns let them take out six (Texas maybe), nine, or more kids and then quickly pop the clip and they are back at it.

Guns are a force multiplier that allow one coward to kill many innocent people quickly with little training or expense.

Had a shooting at Bally's on the strip this morning, too. Three shot, at least one dead at Drai's nightclub. And a shooting at an apartment complex. Cops arrived, found a body, looked around some more, found another body...

seriously, the list of things to actually worry about is endless: crack, pot, alcohol, running with scissors, paste, their growing up and being republican or christian or LDS, low IQ, high IQ, average, good at sports, bad at sports, being a bully, getting bullied, catholic priests, nuns, global warming/cooling, running out of oil, too much oil, GMO, vegan parents, SIDS, to spank or not to spank,

FFS, gun shootings shouldnt even make the radar of things to worry about.
Sure, we should do something at a national level, but we should also be pragmatic about risk.

Background checks only work if the person buying the gun isn't a straw buyer. Most bad guys get their guns through theft or straw buys. Both of which are, already, illegal. Wait periods and magazine restrictions have no effect; if the person in question is a straw buyer.

Well schools are really just liberal indoctrination gayosexual training camps, so it hardly qualifies as a school shooting either.
