Why are they picketting the World Series? Is it because the bats and balls and stuff are kind of gay?

Being "actual Christians" wouldn't go well with their hateful, intolerant behavior, either.

Ya, my guess is there will be more cameras so they can get their attention whore on. Unfortunately they are talking about protesting in St. Louis. The Cardinal fans will probably pretend to ignore them.
Sox fans, on the other hand, might give them a recreation of the original tea party.

This is what their schedule and "reasoning" is for the Eagles concert protest:

Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO October 23, 2013 7:15 PM - 8:00 PM

Westboro Baptist Church will protest proud sin using the venue of The Eagles, a pack of lecherous, self-absorbed, old and well worshiped farts that serve as idols for Doomed america. Are you people stark raving mad?! Answer: YES, YES, YES!!

All the songs of the Eagles run to sin.

Just by way of only one example, Don Henley was a serial fornicator till he married in 1995. God knows what he has done since. The media freely reports on what he did before, and the words are archived on the internet, as part of the pride of a foolish and falling nation. You show your shameful bare backside, and think it is good.

In the 1980s, Henley took up with Stevie Nicks, the horrors of that mess and their proud sin became the stuff of their music. This filthy nation took their example and made it their way of life.

A person can sing some lovely melodies and the words don't have to be all about proud sin, e.g.

The only thing worse than a troll is a lazy troll. Why go through all of the expense and trouble of going over there and trolling for attention when issuing a press release gets the same results?

TBH, I think WBC doesn't show up much anymore because

1) they know they're pushing it and are going to get shot at/beaten within an inch of their life, and won't be able to sue because no one will have "seen anything".

2) It takes a lot of money to pay for bus, gas, meals and hotel rooms required for these trolling excursions, and AFAIK, WBC hasn't cashed in by suing or settling out of court lately. "cost of troll trips > income made by lawsuits = not going anywhere".

I kinda doubt it. I think it would have happened by now. The most people have done is slash some tires and block them in their motel parking lot.

They also run a (by all accounts I've seen) fairly successful law firm. Most of the adults are lawyers, and they aren't just sitting on those degrees.

So now they troll people by not showing up?.

I wish they did more of that. In fact, the more insular and isolated they are from the outside world, the better. I just fear that if we leave them alone for a few generations, they'll end up as mutated inbred brutes that feast on human flesh and rut on their own filth.

I also heard many of them have a law degree, but who would hire them as their attorneys? And what law do they practice?  As far as I can tell, they are all pretty much "in-house counsel" as they seem to represent only one client, their own religious institution.

And they seemed to have taken law for the primary purpose of furthering the aims of their religion - being able to know the legal limits of their demonstrations, taking municipalities to court if they push back, etc.

Do they have outside clients?

I have a theory on how to take down the WBC. They are a tax-exempt organization, and this has been challenged before (see:  Westboro Baptist Church's Tax-Exempt Status Challenged ), but those have failed.

However, WBC has broken rules banning political advocacy by posting no fewer than two pieces addressed to legislative bodies: one is a  resolution for a legislature to pass and the other is amessage directly to legislatures. How is this not a blatant violation of Sect. 501(c)(3)'s provisions?

They have a law firm in Topeka. I wish I could remember where I heard it, but a Topeka resident mentioned that while everyone around despises them, they go running to the Phelps firm when they need a lawyer. Apparently scummy lawyers are good lawyers. Who knew?

/They also apparently get some sort of civil rights related payments from the federal government when they take on civil rights cases, but I didn't look at that too closely as what I did see when right over my head.

What the shiat?  I thought that was a joke.  I can understand showing up at a funeral and having some impact on vulnerable mourners but they will just get laughs outside a concert venue.  And when I say "I can understand" I mean we've all felt that occasional temptation, right?  At one time or another?

Interesting.  Yeah, after your reply, I did a bit more google-fu:  It's called the Phelps Chartered Firm.  Although apparently, Fred Phelps is disbarred now.   Their Yelp has a lot of negative reviews.  No surprise it has more to do with whom they are associated with than with their quality as a firm.

I didn't see any website for their firm, which is odd, as pretty much any firm has one - no matter the size.  I suspect they operate as quietly as possible.

This.  Well, these.

I've been to many a Patriot Guard Riders funeral mission where they threatened to show up and in 6 years of doing it I've never seen them.  I've also been often told by local LEOs that if anything were to, ya know, like, happen, the LEOs would definitely be looking somewhere else while it happened.  Thankfully the Patriot Guard Riders don't roll that way.  I sure as hell won't take the bait from Westboro Baptist loonies.

On a side note, I had to distance myself from the local PGR.  The ones that shout "it's not about us" the loudest are the ones that want it to be about them.  They do a great thing, don't get me wrong, but too many have a need to get patted on the back.  Luckily the families and friends of the fallen don't get to see that or the insane infighting and politics of it volunteer organization.  Hey, their leadership isn't all bad but there's more than a few rotten apples.

I did some digging over a year ago and this is some of what I found. Of course with the info being over a year old it may need updating. But I am watching The Rifleman on Youtube so it ain't gonna happen today.

There's plenty of information available about the Phelps Family and WBC.  It's no longer doing any good for anyone to bring them up, especially when its for not doing something.

The people of Topeka, KS have actually learned the best way to treat the Phelps Family is to completely ignore them.  There is no argument that will make them go "A-HA!  What I am doing is wrong and I will change my ways".

I've seen many counter-protests, which makes the people feel good about themselves because they can demonstrate, yet again, that most people abhor the filth that spews forth from the Phelps clan.   But really the counter-protests are counter-productive.  They only create more reason for media to come and put that horrible family on my screen and in front of millions of more potential viewers every day.

Please artists, famous people, and others.  I know it's hard, but please just ignore these clowns.  Don't give the media any reason to talk about them.

I don't know, maybe it's time to go the other way and kardashian them. Put them on "reality" TV and stoke their individual egos until they disintegrate. Then spin off a show for each particle until those atomize. When one of the boys does a bachelor show and one of the girls is in Playboy, the end is nigh. The danger, of course, is one of them gets elected to Congress.

simkatu: Please artists, famous people, and others. I know it's hard, but please just ignore these clowns. Don't give the media any reason to talk about them.

1) I sincerely doubt they'll just vanish if they are ignored. From what I've seen, they seem to have too much real faith in what they're doing for me to think that they'll shut it down if deprived of lawsuits/attention. Those things seem to be bonuses and not reasons in and of themselves.

2) For people closer than us to them, ignoring them may just be out of the question. I also can't bring myself to fault anyone for saying "You f*cking suck" when confronted by hateful people. If you want to just ignore them and hope they go away, but all means do so. But please don't try to get in the way of people who are willing to take a more active approach.

2013-10-21 04:47:35 PM
So why don't they check in at the Hotel California?

2013-10-21 05:16:37 PM
Well if nothing else, they do have good taste to protest this particular series.

I'd bet that most baseball fans aren't interested in watching a Cards/Sox world series.

Yes, I'm sorry, but it's true according to me and the very scientific survey I conducted on my circle of friends.

2013-10-21 05:57:50 PM
I live in Topeka - you think your sick of them, they are stationed around town as much as possible.

Ignoring them doesn't help, but it doesn't hurt either. They normally look bored and listless holding the signs while looking at their smart phones. They use the same drug store I do. Have gotten stuck next to Shirley in line before. Nobody speaks to them. Nobody wants to live by them. Topeka is a wacky place, lots of mental hospitals and many closed mental hospitals who left many sick people on the streets.

Go to YouTube and look for the " Topeka dancing lamp man" One day he was on one side of the street doing his obscene booty dance with his lamp and WBC was picketing something unrelated on the other. Freakin circus town.

/needs to move - tired of crazy.
// they picket where ever groups of people are .. Prob just decided to save some scratch and stay close to home.

Yup...word was that they were going to protest a soldiers funeral in my hometown. Counter protesters showed up. A full contingent of cops complete with helicopter and mobile jail showed up. The press showed up. You know who didn't show up? The a-holes from westboro.

All they had to do was say that they were coming and they got all the publicity they wanted at no expense to themselves.

Personally, I think they should be billed for the wasted police presence if they don't show.

As much as I hate the Pink Hats and the Frat Boy Brigade that have infested Fenway in the past ten years, I can't say I'd be surprised (or disappointed, for that matter) if this happened.  Maybe just throw them over the fencing over the Pike and watch them get hit by cars in front of the giant anti-gun ad behind Landsdowne Street?  Or would that be a dividing by zero moment?
