I guess that's a bit more literal than the usual meaning behind "floating the giant purple sculpture down the Vltava", but I guess it works

That would look great floating down the Potomac.
This time of year D.C. could use a splash of color.

I didn't think the middle finger was universal.

British and Irish only.

Spanish and French use the Bras d'honneur - slap one arm at the elbow with your other hand, while bending the elbow up.  Symbolizing ramming something up the bottom I think.

Russian-influenced countries use a clenched fist except with the thumb sticking up in between the index and middle fingers.

And there are various other gestures used regionally - thumb-biting, outstretched palm, back of hand slid up under the chin and out...

And of course the middle finger is pretty much universally recognised, it's not actually a uniquely American thing, it far predates the discovery of the continent.

It goes back at least as far as the Romans; they called it the "digitus impudicus" or "indecent finger".

Did that really need a video? I only clicked with the hope of hearing how to pronounce "Vltava" as a still picture would have sufficed.

When reached for comment, David Cerny said something like "It's the farking middle finger aimed at the farking communists in the castle"

Smetana - Vltava  Some classical music to lighten the mood

Tava - like kava. Long As

It was removed pretty quickly. But Cerny has a few galleries around the city, it'll probably go to Dox.
