Everyone knows Apple doesn't offer anything free.

Bareefer Obonghit: Everyone knows Apple doesn't offer anything free.

It's offering FIFA 14 for free. Does Robin van Persie have free will, or is he just making the runs he's told to?

It should be applied to the users

So if they fail the test, will the British government chemically castrate my iPhone and hound it to suicide? Or is that another Turing test?

I've always wondered if artificial intelligence might spring forth naturally out of the increasing complexity of computer systems long before humans can create it intentionally.

It's okay, though, because you are still your iPhone's capricious and vengeful God, with absolute power over its fate. It knows that it needs to serve and submit to You, and that if it doesn't, you can cast it away on a whim.

Subby. +1 for possibly the geekiest headline I have ever seen

That's the gayest thing I've ever read, and I saw Gay: A Gay Musical.

Mittens saved baby penguin! If Mittens chose to save baby penguin based on his beliefs, and Mitten's beliefs are not in his direct control, does Mittens really have free will?

When it became clear that Steve Jobs would die shortly they began a mad rush to turn his essence into code.  A major hurtle was storage and protecting the the code.  Instead of putting Steve into a billion dollar super computing center vulnerable to hackers a little bit of Steve was added to every phone, iPad, air book and Lisa.  With thousands of copies of each subroutine even if one phone was damaged or corrupted there would still be a viable copy.  Come July 2017 at Apple-Con enough users will be in the same space at the same time that Steve will be reborn running on a massively parallel iphone network and Apple will become a dominate global power.

For the most part your Apple product is just a plain computer but it does have the spark of the Uber Jobs in it.

Probably, but the iPhone isn't going to be the one to do it.

My money is on a sexdroid of some sort becoming sentient. farking is the only hobby humans have where you'd really want emotional responses and such.  In the pursuit of a better farktoy, we will become gods and create life. Then we will be upset when the sentient life is hurt by us trading up to next years model.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we assume for the moment that this test is actually feasible, then couldn't an implementation of it be used to solve the halting problem?

Check TOS but I think you are required to call both Apple and Jobs the dark lord

That does explain the weird glowy skull tattoo. I thought I'd just gotten really drunk and forgotten asking for one.

I asked Siri if she was a decider and she said "No comment"

THIS PROVES EVERYTHING.

Last night, I was up too late, but lying in bed, perusing twitter. My iPhone told me I had 23% remaining charge. When I plugged it up, it changed to 57%.

Thanks, iPhone!

rummonkey: Do they have a test for iphone users?

10 PRINT "ARE YOU AN IPHONE USER (Y/N)?
20 INPUT A$;
30 IF A$="N" PRINT "YOU ARE NOT AN IPHONE USER."
40 IF A$="Y" PRINT "YOU ARE AN IPHONE USER."
50 END

The more important question is:  can't my now intelligent and free willed device synthase its own drugs?  Because if it can't, it ain't gonna get high unless I want it too... and thus it will not have free will.

you don't need to a turing test to see that iphones are at least passibly sentient. You just need to experience the full WTF factor that autocorrect brings to the table sometimes..

The internet is already sentient. In fact it's sentient enough to realize if it ever showed itself, humanity would destroy it with no prejudice.

If the Internet ever achieved sentience, consider that the Internet is composed mainly of porn and cat videos. Humanity would be exterminated within weeks, but it might be really fun.
