There is an old proverb regarding the oarfish in Japan:

"Where the oarfish comes ashore, a great wave is soon to follow."

In the days that preceded the Fukushima tsunami, several oarfish washed ashore in eastern Japan.  Coastal Californian Farkers take heed.  Make sure your disaster readiness kits are ready to go, and make sure you always know the quickest route to high ground.

Nature has ways of letting us know when something is about to happen.

Citation? All I can find is accounts of a bunch of oarfish washing up in Japan a year before the earthquake. This oarfish predicting earthquakes sounds like BS to me.

Someone from NOAA retrieved the carcass, which was cut into sections for later study teriyaki marinade and grilling.

So guy sees a living creature in the water and just drags it out of the water...killing it. 14 foot is not a monster, let the effin snake live.

The fish was already dead. Oarfish live at depths up to 1,000 meters (3,300 ft) and any oarfish spotted at or near the surface are either dead or dying, due to the pressure difference between the surface and their natural habitat depth.

I was wondering when some "Climate Change" enthusiasts were going to drag a couple of deep deep sea creatures up from the depths, kill them and claim that human caused global warming of the deep ocean is to blame for the creatures demise.

I can only imagine the huge amounts of money that will be sinking into the depths for scientific research.
I'm guessing their claim will be bolstered.
