Rabid Badger Beaver Weasel: I haven't seen the Doritos Locos Taco flavored Doritos in stores lately, though. And I'm still waiting for Taco Bell to make a Doritos Locos Taco with the Taco flavored Doritos.

I believe the world would implode if that ever happened.

The Smails Kid: Epicanis: Can't they just buy a pusher robot for that?

Shoving is the answer.

Do not listen to the pusher robot.

I'm not sure about that. There's a long history of corporate synergy and cross product. Like Oreo Blizzards... Since the same company owns Taco Bell and Doritos, they probably thought of it years ago , but had to figure out the recipes and manufacturing processes. So it's not falling into it

They only thing that caught them by surprise is the popularity.

From what I've seen about packaged chips, they are generally rolled around in a huge tumbler while spreading the flavor over them right after frying.  You can't do that with a taco shell.  My guess is that there is some spendy robot that "hand" sprays the flavor on each taco, much like an auto painter.  Maybe some of the flavor is blended with the batter.

/Or they've developed a machine that can take many taco shells through the frying and embedding process in on go.  So, maybe there's a machine that can accept a dozen or so shells and spin them through the oil/baking process and then continue on like a conveyor that can spin around, through the seasoning process.

Yes, this is why I'm not a fan of these.  Just doesn't taste like real Doritos.

People seem to love them though.

The Cool Ranch tacos are really freakin good.  The nacho flavor ones aren't all that great, though.

We saw Alton Brown's live show last night.  Science and Food, and so-so music.  It was FUN!

anwserman: ckccfa: For those of you afraid of the meat at TBell, you can have them replace taco meat with refried beans for any of their menu items.  Makes TBell a pretty handy place to stop if you're a traveling vegetarian.

cept their beans aren't vegetarian friendly.  unless they changed the recipe, those beans have animal lard in em

/worked a tb for 8 months

I don't think they've used lard for at least 15 years. If ever.
