IAmRight: I do wonder if universities would stay open over winter break and keep all the residence halls and all operations running so they could have the student presence at an expanded playoff.

I don't know of many universities that close down residence halls over the holidays. Not everyone goes home, especially international students.

cameroncrazy1984: IAmRight: False. First of all, I like the lack of a playoff. In fact, I was fine without the BCS, back in the days of multiple champions. And FCS is not Division II.

Well, we know your handle is a lie.;

Yes because he's just arguing semantics, Div II is still just I-AA and people called it Div II for years since its a level lower than real football.

No offense to Michigan fans there....

No, because people couldn't accept ties.

/I'm fine with ties intellectually, but man does it suck watching three hours of a sport just to have it end up in a tie
//watched way too many college hockey ties last year. Leave the arena with a "well, ok" feeling...it's just not a great way to leave.

See, I'm kind of torn because he is hometown (Go Gophers!)  and I have to root for him on principle, but then my sister taught him and said he acted like what you would think a hot-shiat football player would act like in the classroom.

Sis said he did clean up his act, tho, and she hears from him every week.

Only retards called it that. FCS was I-AA.

Division II has been its own thing forever. Division I was split into I-A and I-AA before I was born. The name change to FCS and FBS happened in 2006, which is more than enough time for people with a brain to have adjusted to the name change and refer to the divisions appropriately.

I see the SEC idiots have shown up.

Mizzou: Five 15 points wins in 2 years in the SEC. Four 15 point wins in the previous four years.
Texas A&M: Upsets Alabama last year.

SEC: Clearly better than every other conference by miles. No reason other teams have a shot at National Championship.

Have you seen how good Tennessee and Vandy are this year!?
So good they beat the impossibly good SC & UGA.

/SEC: Sports circlejerk

Funny thing you forgot to mention is that NO team playing in the FBS has a shot at a National Championship this year.

I think you mean NCAA championship.

Yeah, it's kinda of a contrived system isn't it?  If the FBS wants a national title, then do a system like the NFL, FCS, D-II and D-III, high school football....heck pretty much any other level of football...would do for their national title.   The FBS 'title' system is just silly.

They have a "National Title" it's just awarded by the BCS and not the NCAA.

True, but wouldn't it be less of a clusterfarked system if they featured a 24-team playoff with the top teams in the FBS's 10 conferences automatically qualify while the other 14 teams are selected for a playoff berth by ranking in the top 12 or top 16 in the final BCS standings.   If it works for the NFL and the FCS, why is it so hard for the FBS to do?

They'd have to shorten the schedule for one.  FCS teams play only 11 games over 12 weeks, with the first round of the playoffs starting Thanksgiving weekend.

Makes sense.  Also I'll go on the record to say that I DO NOT think that the FCS is better than the FBS, I just think if they are going to have a BCS national title, they should simplify it and make it based on the W-L record and have a one and out playoff system like the NFL or any other level of football.

I'll also point out that there are FCS teams that are stronger than FBS teams.  Just because a university can't afford or has made the decision not to hand out a bunch of scholarships doesn't automatically mean that they should be ignored or laughed off.  When Appy state three-peated the FCS championship and beat Michigan in their own stadium, should that team have been laughed off as a joke since they weren't an FBS team?   The only thing they needed to do was hand out a few more scholarships and be invited by a FBS conference.   That's what irks me about 'fans' like SteamingPile.  They are small-minded and have an overly simple view of the world.

False.  The FCS teams were in Division I until 1978, when the Division I-A teams split off.  Divisions II and III are completely separate.

Division I-AA was never called Division II because it never was Division II.

I'm really torn now since I have to root for bama to beat the shiat out of Mizzou since they talked so much shiat the past few weeks. They got lucky to join the east in a down period, any other time in the previous decade they would have gotten their asses handed to them already.

FCS has a selection committee as well. You have to when you have a large playoff field since it's pretty much never going to work out where the best teams have the best records and there's a perfect cutoff point between, say, 9-4 teams and 8-5 teams.

I get that.  I'm the same way.  Sagarin has ND State rated 43rd right now, between Penn State and Iowa.  They are not a second-class team.

I wouldn't mind an 8-team playoff, I just think beyond that it gets a bit unwieldy.

Hmmm okay, I suppose that makes sense. I swear I remember stuff about people having to get out at NAU, but I don't really know too much about that situation. Incorrect. Let's pretend it's like Coke/Pepsi. Is either one really better than the other? People will argue to the death for their side, but basically they're the same damn thing with a different "uniform" on. Similarly, some teams you could watch them play 200 times and each would win 100. Just because one team happens to win the game that happens doesn't mean they're better.

Or, like conference championship games where Team 1 beats Team 2 in the regular season but Team 2 beats Team 1 in the championship (or LSU/Bama from a couple years ago)...which one is better?

Okay, looked at it closer.  You lost to Montana State, so it makes sense that they ended up higher since they were conference co-champions and won head-to-head.  EWU also only had one win against a ranked team, whereas Delaware and William & Mary had four and App State had two.  App State had only one loss in FCS to the team that finished ranked 5th.  And that was a 7 point loss versus EWU's 23 point loss.  It's not 100% obvious, but there are arguments for the other teams.

Still no excuse for a 5 seed. I assume that some of the seeding was based on keeping travel expenses down and maybe increasing attendance. Kudos to the few crazy fans who made it from Villanova all the way out to Cheney. NDSU was the only team that had a good amount of fans show up.
