Relax. Ryan's got his beef empire to keep him busy in retirement.

I mean, who DOESN'T want to put Nolan Ryan's sausage in their mouth?

This seems to be a good place to point out that Robin Ventura was one of the best college hitters of all time, but he'll always be known as the guy who got his ass kicked by a forty-something Nolan Ryan.

Thanks for all the epic times, Nolan.

Now, Rangers, please don't turn back into the old Rangers.

From what I've read and heard him say, I think the job George W. Bush really wanted was Commissioner of Baseball.  (The conspiracy theory has long been that Jeb was George HW Bush's pick to be his political successor, but Jeb has some skeletons in his closet that would probably prevent him from being elected President.)   And I think he'd probably be good at that.

The thing is, though, I know it's fun to bash Bud Selig, but when you look at the clowns who run the NFL, the NHL, and the NBA, and even international organizations like FIFA and Formula 1, he's not that bad a commissioner.  He's certainly not doing something dumbass like trying to force a team into a country that has no tradition of that sport, and would be playing 5 time zones away from its closest competitor, like one commissioner I could name is.

I will say this:  Remember when people used the line "George Bush traded away Sammy Sosa?"  Turns out that might have been one of the smartest things he ever did.  Yeah, the Rangers didn't get a piece of the fraudulent home run chase, but they also don't have the legacy of that dumpster fire, either.

Oh, I dunno about that. I'd say moving his own club into the NL "to balance the schedule" and then, about 15 years later, forcing the Astros to move to the AL "to balance the schedule" is a pretty dick move.

Other way around. Game against Chicago in his stadium in Milwaukee. A few days after a hurricane hit Houston, making the Astros leave their homes and families behind. I wonder who got the concession revenue from that game?

I may be wrong BUT wasn't one of the "balance the schedule" moves due to the D-Bags not wanting to be an AL team?

Can't say I'm sad over this. Between Nolan and JD, losing JD would have been much more damaging to the team. I get that Nolan is a legend, and having him around makes Rangers fans feel better, but he wanted in on JD's job, and JD rightfully stuck up for himself. It sucks that Nolan feels leaving is his best course of action, but as I explained to some fellow fans, just because you kicked ass as a player doesn't mean you automatically are going to kick ass in the front office. Exhibit A: Michael Jordan.
