Robin Thicke had to do something different.

they should make a new movie based on the animated cartoon.  that would almost definitely be better than whatever idea they're working on now.

This is the only way the "cool" tag might apply rather than "stupid".

Nooo!  He will ruin it.

Michael Keaton could, and would need to, return.  He wore so much makeup in the original, that he'd look the same.  No one else would.

What would they call the 3rd installment I wonder?

I'm really surprised he did't have them in Frakenweenie.

Uugh, fine.  She can be Lydia's annoyingly cheerful mother and disappear from the film after the first five minutes.

Or, she can voice the CGI Ginger the tap dancing spider.  These are her only acceptable roles.

/Who am I kidding?  She'll play Lydia.
//And there will be PG wrestle kissing galore.
///Beetlejuice will also have a pirate accent for some reason.

Had they announced this within 5 years of the first one, fine. Now, way too late, way too dated, and way too unknown.

A friend of mine and I were talking about Tim Burton's films a few weeks ago and we both realized something: Tim Burton has not made a film based on an original idea since "Edward Scissorhands!" All of his other movies have been based on properties. I'd say the closet original fim would be "Frankenweenie," but even THAT was a remake!

Very little, if any of Burton's later work is really all that inventive, inspiring or whimsical.  For the most part, you could sum it up as better than the average mega expensive Hollywood drudge, with an impeccable title attached and enough promise to make people watch.

So, although I really love the original, I can tell you that if a sequel is made, it will be crap.

But it was an original movie, not a remake. 99% of movies are based upon books or plays, so I won't fault him there.

Still it's based on a book, not an original property. I think I could grant that maybe "Ed Wood" was an original movie even if it was a bio-pic because it was highly fictionalized.

Doesn't matter in my book, I love that flick

I'm afraid that ship sailed 25 years ago.  If they did try to do another one, they better not even think about replacing Keaton.

It's funny though. As much as everyone jokes about Burton being a one note hack and all, I do enjoy his films and have seen every single one in the theater. But for some odd reason, "Big Fish" is the only one that I have only ever watched once! And being that I used to work for Ringling Bros., you would think that it would be one of my favorites given its circus setting.

I think Russell Brand would make a better Beetlejuice than Johnny Depp.
Dose him with some acid, tie him up and hit him with sticks, maybe a bit of DMT to take the edge off... yeah, I would pay to see that.

I could see a straight sequel working, using Lydia's child(ren) as either the protagonist or kidnap victim that has to be rescued.  Could easily be in a different geographic location as well.  There's nothing in the basic premise that would make it not work.  Howwweeevvveeerrrrrr.........

Burton is washed up.  Ryder is...  Well, to be fair, I haven't watched the recent things she's been in.  Keaton would probably be the best thing about the movie, and steal every single scene.  Bonham Carter would end up shoehorned in somewhere, probably as some love interest for Beetlejuice.  Depp would probably end up in there as well, as Lydia's husband (likely estranged) who has to rescue his kids or something.  Basically, it would end up being a mess of wacky overacting and no coherent plot, other than "Hey kids!  I'm Beetlejuice!  Aren't I so cool?!  Buy my toys!"

Zero faith in Tim Burton being able to pull this off.

The first time I saw someone wearing Nightmare Before Christmas merch, I was blown away. I thought I was the only one who loved that movie. Oh how young and naive I was back then. But at least I can maintain this amount of snowflakiness: I may be one of the few people who's in love with that movie who otherwise cares little for Tim Burton movies. I liked Big Fish and that's pretty much it.

Tim Burton movies are his excuse to get Johnny Depp in cosplay gear.

Like some sage farker said years ago, Burton didn't direct pirates of the Caribbean, but damn he wishes he did.

I think Ryder's been relegated to "mom roles" (even in Star Trek).

I've always been baffled about one thing.

Tim Burton has worked for Disney many times, so how come Disney never asked him to do a reboot of The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh?

hollywoodprop.com

I could see Johnny Depp as Dr. Synn. But I guess that since there's no real role for Helena Bonham Carter (because she HAS to come as a set with Depp or it's No Deal), it probably will never happen.
