PETA's suggestion actually seems ... kinda cool. I raise my fried chicken and ribs that I just ate in recognition.
/and damn, the Redskins' cheerleader recruiter must subscribe to Juggs

Gregg Easterbrook suggested this over a decade ago.

Generation_D: Some alternative name suggestions I haven't seen yet:

Washington Lobbyists
Washington A--hole Congressmen
Washington Derps
Washington Criminals
Washington Industrial-Military Complex
Washington Fatass Government Workers
Washington Useless Liars
Washington Stupids

It's more properly the "Washington Military-Industrial Complexes", I believe. We could even shorten it to "Washington MICs". I fail to see how such a name could offend anyone at all.

Next they are going after the White Sox and the Blue Jays.

That wasnt the dumbest thing I've seen from Krauthammer. But damn, it reads like he was just rambling into a voice recorder while kicking back in a recliner after a few whiskey sours.

If they do lose the Redskins name, I hope they go with this.  Instead of causing the controversy by using a slur to describe a whole race, it would be honoring a bunch of guys who represented an entire ethic group with honor and courage.  Also, you'd get the keep the "Red" part of the name, so in my mind, it wouldn't be that hard to get used to the change.

I still want them changed to the Beltway Bandits.

They would have to move to Alabama for that to be remotely appropriate. The Red Tails were the Tuskegee Airmen, remember?

js34603: Mr.Poops: Why not change the name to Warriors? I know it's generic, but it's not offensive

When they finally get around to forcing Snyder to change the name, he'll probably go with something like that, or Braves, or some other generic term for Native Americans, and keep the logo.

/Maybe Natives?

Snyder owns (or at least did) a trademark for "Washington Warriors," so if it changes, that'll be the new name. I'd prefer a two syllable name so the fight song still scans

Touché.  You could look at it though, as The Tuskegee Airmen represented the United States in the war, not Alabama.  Since the team is in our nation's capital, it might still work.  Also, a little thing like regional appropriate team monikers never stopped the Utah Jazz.

Or the Lakers, or the Phoenix Cardinals.

Why has this issue heated up so much this year? For the past couple of decades there have been people protesting the Redskins name with minor attention and some lip service paid to the issue. This year however it's not dying down like usual. What's changed?

As my racist pioneer-stock grandfather always used to say when I was a kid, "the natives are getting restless."

Snyder's public refusal to change the name. He made it a much bigger issue.

I think Washington Pale Faces has a nice ring to it.

Just go with "Washington."  Continue using the emblem/logo.  Just drop the "Redskins" from all official merchandise.

Indians don't have red skin. They used to paint their faces red, hence the name. Why is everyone so stupid? Especially the current native Americans who apparently know very little about their own culture.

As my wife refers to him, Krauthammer is "Washington's Angriest Cripple". Not sure what happened to him or what condition he has, but that's why he's in a wheelchair. Wife dubbed him that title after almost being run over by him downtown once. The writing is only a side job from what I understand, I think he's a psychiatrist by trade. Would explain a lot of things.

The perfect name for a team from DC is the
Washington Red Inks

Krauthammer just proved he has no idea how far a bunch of people pretending to be butthurt over a name will go to stay relevant and in the news.

And as a person of German descent, I'm offended by his name. I demand he change it.

You are aware, of course, that the "Red" in "Redtails" comes from the same origin as "Redskins", correct? So how is this not also a slur?

I don't think the Nigs will have a problem with that.

It just gets pronounced War-yers.
