Are all who disagree with Goldberg on this one automatically craven liberals? Try that out on the brilliant conservative Charles Krauthammer,

I would give a shiat what Bob thought if he had went in this rant at anytime of his previous few decades in sports reporting.

Him biatching about it now gives the appearance of being an attention whore.

He did the exact same thing last year, talking about gun control right after Sandy Hook.   Its his M.O.
He could be preaching about "lets not stomp puppies" and it will make me want to stomp a puppy just to disagree with him.

What I think is stupid is the description the one tribe gave was disingenuous, it was not started after leaving dead bodies in the sun. It was originally used as a descriptor of a race, I can see how they can take offense but to bring it up and biatch so loudly now sounds like a donation solicitation.

I find it interesting that even AIM didn't biatch about it that loudly until the 90s, when it was used as an emotional plea for sympathy. In the words of Richard Vernon, "you want sympathy look between shiat and syphilis in the dictionary"

Never said that but if its a big deal now, it should have been then as well is all I'm saying, I dont give a shiat since it could be racist in their usage. In the original usage its not a negative term but in this PC world its right there with the F word.

Does keeping the name cure it, then?

Either way, frankly I don't much give a sh*t, either, but you were saying racist sh*t didn't used to be a big deal, and so shouldn't now, and then you said that's not what you were saying.  Unless I read that wrong.  Which is entirely possible.

No what I'm saying is the term does not been what these Oneida Indians are saying it meant, they spout that its because the skin burned in the sun after being slaughtered when the term used to just mean the color of their skin in life as well. It may be insensitive but it doesn't mean they are deliberately being racist.

I don't care if they change it since it gives the appearance of being bad but I still think they are using it solicit donations and to get attention.

How

Walk up to anybody of aboriginal ancestry and call them a "redskin" and watch first-hand the epic beating that ensues.

Honestly, if you wouldn't call anybody of that particular heritage that name, it's probably racist.

2013-10-18 09:29:38 PM
I read that in Costa's voice.

I think a good test for redskin is would you walk up to a Native American you didn't know and use the term redskin in conversation with them in some way. Now ponder why you probably wouldn't.

It has more to do with the wounded knee incident and Leonard Peltier shooting down two FBI agents coming to question a man about an assault. No matter what rage against the machine tells you he gunned them down in cold blood with a high powered rifle while the agents didn't even have time to draw their weapons to defend themselves. They were a terrorist type group and if any right wing group would have done what they did nobody would have a problem with it.

I find it amazing that when a group of people ask that a racial slur against them stop being used as a team name not only do people tell them to STFU, but they also get offended that they are being asked to stop using a racial slur as a team name. I guess Dave Chappelle was right when he said that Native Americans get dogged and nobody cares because everybody thinks that they are all dead.

I think its because what they are claiming it means is not how its meant, is it a tiny bit offensive, sure but its not exactly a racial slur.

I could see where they would be offended if they are big pussies but in the grand scheme of things its kind of petty.

I love how people who a slur isn't intended for talk about how it isn't offensive. Native Americans say it is offensive, it was originally meant to be an offensive slur towards Native Americans, but Mr. White Man over here says it isn't offensive, so it's not. And if it is so petty just change the name then.
