Yep, goddamn allergies will be the end of me.

to quote one of my favorite authors "If love would die along with death, this world wouldn't be so hard"

That really was as sad as advertised.

At least this remark in the comments made me laugh:
Being friends with Stanhope - their story could never have a happy ending.

I never met them but I'm friends with people who are their friends, all of us in the loose circle of (non-metal) bands here in the Phoenix area. We were more tightly knit ten years ago, but many of us are still at it.

It's especially sad that the only way to get any press/exposure is through death. These two made it all the way to Fark. See Mark Erickson from Colorstore as last years's example of someone who got more press in dying than he ever got for the great music he made when he was alive. It's like an insult on top of tragedy.

I'm a Doug Stanhope fan, I like his stuff a lot.
But.
That last podcast was so painful I switched it off.
He was in Bisbee with Nowhere Man while Whiskey Girl was absent, dying in hospital IIRC.
Stanhope was drunk or most of the way there and did his thing of being a coont, but just this once I wish he hadn't. He constantly reminded Nowhere Man that he (Stanhope) had farked Whiskey Girl and just seemed to relish in the audible frisson that created. Just like a drunk, it's all farking funny, even pissing on your friends.
I don't think that his behavior in that recording contributed to the suicide, I don't want to anyway. But maybe.
Maybe I am wrong completely, they were his friends and I'm not, I don't know what it was like in that room. But as a listener to the performance it was difficult, and hardly anything gets me that way, I don't know... it wasn't right.

Woman dies from disease and guy gives up and causes his friends and family grief.

Sorry for the woman, no respect for the guy. None.

Never, ever, give up.

Farking idiots saying he did something selfish. All you're doing is demonstrating a complete incomprehension of mental anguish/illness. Kindly shut the fark up and GTFO.

Jeeeeeesus Christ... Why did I read that... Goddamn, that was depressing.

KidneyStone: Woman dies from disease and guy gives up and causes his friends and family grief.

There comes a point when grief and pain make existing unbearable. When nearly every waking moment you either wish you were never born or want to stick a gun in your mouth. Eventually, the only thing you can imagine is that it will always be this way, or worse. This is when you decide the only way to make it stop is to make yourself stop. The idea that taking yourself out is selfish doesn't occur to you, because you feel so worthless, you can't imagine anyone will care.

You've obviously never been in that situation, and I sincerely hope you never are. But try to have some compassion for others in that situation, but everyone isn't like you, and some people experience a degree of mental anguish you can't comprehend.

I feel very, very bad for both of them.
