If was her hope, her wish! And she's taking it back. Taking them all back.

I saw this before, but this story failed to mention that the is developmentally disabled, she also recently lost her job.   Normally I'm not a bleeding heart sort of person, but arrested for $2.87 so she could eat? I'm glad she is getting some help.

Ordinarily I don't have a problem with police either, but the one that arrested her over this is a colossal tool.
Guess that's high crime in Bellefountaine, OH.  Glad to see the officer out there risking his life.

So, what typically happens to the money that gets tossed in fountains?  Besides being collected by poor people, I mean.

Why do low income people always have multiple animals or multiple kids......being low income sucks for anyone but don't amplify by adding children or animals to the mix.

I always assumed they went to some sort of charity - you know, the type of organization that gives money to poor people so they don't go hungry.

She has 4 cats.

You think 'crazy cat lady' ever goes hungry?

Were there three coins in that fountain?

Well, you have to figure that four cats will only feed someone for so long - sooner or later she'll run out, then she might go hungry.

Animals give unconditional love. They don't care if you are poor, homeless, crazy, ugly, fat, stupid, etc.
And there are times when these animals keep a person living. Because that's all they have.

Humans not so much.

It was my 10th birthday, the family had just arrived in Perth and staying at a nice hotel. Whilst my parents were checking into the hotel, I was mortified when I turned around and saw my two younger brothers (7 and 4) shoes off, in the wishing well fountain of the foyer collecting coins.  I think they put most of them back once caught.

When you can't use the trite excuse "I've got a family to feed", fall back on feeding your pets.

What do you expect when the town name literally translates as "Beautiful fountain"? They must be pretty proud of what they have and don't want some hobo dipping her grubby little hands in the water and stealing the money people were just tossing away.

An officer ASSHOLE apparently saw Romine taking the change and then found the change in her pocket. She was charged with petty theft and given a summons to appear in court.

I have zero respect for those "rules are rules" zero-tolerance law enforcement officers who by their actions have forsaken their membership in the human race.

I wouldn't piss on one if IT was on fire.

Bellefontaine not too far from where I grew up, doesn't surprise me. Big drug issues (well, our whole region has that) but we're worried about a woman taking change out of a fountain.

The sad thing is that a lot of the resources that could have helped her have lost funding and they no longer do the outreach programs like in the past (we generally got satellite offices since this is rural area with low population) so you basically have to rely on the churches and they can only do so much.

Glad to see that people are willing to help her out. If she has case manager, probably has court appointed trustee who can make sure her rent is paid and give her a monthly stipend for groceries. That's how we handle my aunt's accounts (she has MR).

Animals can be awesome, but to properly care for them they can be expensive. Just cannot imagine someone already struggling adding to the stress

I guess crime does pay. That said, it would never have occurred to me that taking money out of a fountain is a crime, unless it is designated for a charity or something.

Annoys me that the taxpayers will spend a LOT more than $2.77 prosecuting her.

Sometimes a person already has the animals when they fall on hard times. You don't just throw away your companion when times get tough. I'd go hungry myself before I'd let my cat starve or get rid of him.

Other times you don't choose the animal, they just show up and choose you.

Depression. Animals help soothe it. Don't be a jerk.

I would personally like to have $536,870,912. All I need to do is start off with a dollar and double it everyday for the next month. Can the internets please help me with this? Thank you.
