Summer Glau's Love Slave: frepnog: gingerjet: frepnog: Don't be stupid.  The world is ready, nay, BEGGING for something new.  This console generation has stretched on FAR too long, and the new Xbox is neck and neck with pre-orders with the PS4 - brand loyalty is BIG in America.  Xbox ONE will do just fine.  With the news that the Xbox ONE will not require the Kinect to be attached, it will do nothing but sell and sell well.  All MS needs is a few big exclusives (or a HALO 5 announcement) and the thing will fly off the shelves.  Christmas this year will be interesting, at least.

So I'm curious what you do as an employee for Microsoft?

I don't work for MS.  I am not shilling for the Xbox ONe.  I am simply stating facts - that the world is ready for something new, there are two new consoles coming out, and one of them has a large market share already, die hard fans, and lots of people that are going to pony up day of launch and take one home.  This next-gen race will be neck and neck.  The price difference MIGHT get some Xbox fans onboard with PS4, but fact is that people will play what their friends have, and I already know TONS of people that are basically tied to Xbox LIVE with a group of friends that are in that same category, and are absolutely sticking with MS.  Sony will do fine, I don't for one minute believe that MS is going to trounce them, but by the same token, anyone that thinks Sony is going to destroy the Xbox ONE are deluding themselves.

I nominate frepnog for "Shill Of The Year."

Carth: madgonad: The new console generation isn't even out yet and they already can't play current games!

Battlefield 4 is rendered at 720p on the new consoles and upscaled. Already. So that means Frostbite 3 games will never even run at 1080p.

Meanwhile, PCs are running BF4 @4k with max detail. the next 5-7 years is going to suck for console gamers.

720p on xbox one 900p on ps4.

The only PCs running BF4 at 4k cost over $4,000 unless you mean running it in slideshow mode.

Uhm, no.
Sony already admittted 720p.
And a pair of Titans will run BF4 smoothly on THREE 4k displays! It appears that $400 is the price for a GPU that can play Frostbite3 @60 and @4k.

Carth: Well I use Mac/Linux...: Carth: Well I use Mac/Linux...: I just built a PC for $700 that will be able to run BF4 and The Witcher 3 on Ultra.  Conslols.

You must have reused a lot of parts or not care about resolution/fps. Even my 7990 can barely handle BF4 at 1440p ultra and 60 fps. Mind posting your build?

I reused my case, PSU, and hard drives.  I'm running an i5 and a 7970.  I was getting around 80fps in the BF4 beta before I downloaded the AMD beta drivers, which were actually worse than what I already had.  I just played some BF3 on ultra the night before last and got a steady 60fps while recording with Dxtory.  I play at 1920x1200.

That is weird. My friend has a 7970 and averages around 55 fps on 1080p ultra 4xMSAA with the beta. I was surprised it couldn't average 60fps without turning down the texture filtering since I'd expect more out of a $300 video card. I'm guessing it will be like the BF3 beta though and the final version will run better.

That's not all that surprising, considering that I saw several people on the forums with rigs almost identical to mine complaining they were only getting 20fps.  Like you said though, it's a beta.  Lets be real here.  BF4 doesn't look THAT much better than BF3.  There's a little more destruction going on, though.  But if I can get 100+ FPS on BF3, there's no reason to think I won't get 60 on BF4.

What is inaccurate or 'shilling' about his comments?  I'm honestly curious.   Not only is he not saying anything inaccurate or wildly praising of the new Xbox, he's not even bashing Sony.  His entire comments boil down to "Both consoles are going to do well."  How outrageous!

How well does it run Red Dead Redemption? Inquiring minds want to know.

It doesn't.  My PS3 runs it fine, though.  What else you got?

So you're saying they're not Conslols, since you actually see a purpose to them. Or are you a hipster using it ironically?

Consoles are fine as secondary gaming machines.  Just as you wouldn't take anyone who used a Vita or a 3DS as their main system seriously, I cannot take anyone whose main system is a console seriously.  Consoles are for great exclusives that you cannot play on the PC, like RDR.  Conslols are for Skyrim and BF3.

fark is anti-Xbox ONE.  Anyone that doesn't claim that it is a blight that causes cancer and rectal warts is a shill.  Fact is that BOTH new consoles are so close in design, that there is a hill of beans difference between them, save exclusives, which are less and less meaningful as so many developers MUST develop for both to have any hope of turning a profit.

Kinect is a non-issue, just like Sony's MOVE.
"Always on" is a non-issue for both machines.
Rented, used, or borrowed games are non-issues for both machines.

I would rather MS not include it, but I understand why they are.  If they include it, dev's will be more likely to USE the thing.

And this is the start of a new generation.  Don't be so quick to discount the Kinect, if dev's can finally figure something out worthwhile.

Nah, I completely understand that. Gaming for me on the computer is fairly incidental. I've got a metric buttload of games installed, but I don't seem to ever play them there. I drift away from a game on the computer a lot faster than I do a game on the console.

Yeah.  As I said, Kinect is a non issue.  Not really sure why they even push it considering how much was NOT done with it on 360.  Yes, it sold well, but most people that bought one never use the damn thing.  That just shows you how ready people were for something NEW.

Different strokes, but I can't see $100 (or a couple games if you buy them used/on sale in your example) being the thing that just forces many people to skip out on a new xbox or flip to a play station...which of course operates on the premise people are only buying one or the other.

I'd personally prefer they leave it out and drop a $100 from the price like Sony did with the Move, but for me I can't say saving $100 is worth walking away from all the friends (online or real world) I have that are getting a new xbox.  I considered it--even still have the PS4 (and a One) preordered on Amazon--but once MS got their shiat together and walked back or clarified some of the policies I didn't like I stuck with the xbox.

If Xbox One is drastically outsold this holiday season I expect a $349 kinectless SKU around Titanfall's launch.

Unless the new management decides to take a different direction I doubt we will see a kinect-less sku period.  Its not impossible, especially if they get blown away by PS4 but they want voice and body motion commands to be what sets them apart.  If developers are going to implement those features they need a very high install base to warrant spending that extra cash.  Plus, Titanfall uses Kinect.

...and if nobody gives a shiat about those features...why would devs bother, in spite of the user base?

AmazinTim: I'll probably pick up a PS3 either Black Friday or early 2014 after the price drops so I can play the Naughty Dog games for cheap.

Then I'll likely get an Xbone after the initial launch issues that plague consoles get ironed out. I think the offloading of processing to cloud servers is a great, forward-thinking move that can enable developers to create unique experiences. Free servers incentivizes that as well. Beyond that, there's no compelling reason for me to sway toward either console.

For me it comes down to if the game I like are there, if my friends are there, if the controller and UI is something I can tolerate using for hours on end, and then all the other media stuff is separate. I don't have any friends on PlayStation (or planning on moving there), I despise the feel of the PS controller, and their exclusives outside of Naughty Dog are of no interest to me.

According to a leaked GameStop ad for Black Friday, they're going to have a 250 GB PS3 bundle with Last Of Us and Batman: Arkham Origins for $199! See for yourself: Link

100$ isn't going to get you 2 games. It's going to get you 1, with enough cash left over for a pizza. Bear in mind there won't be a used market for a while, even if we assume they don't jack up the price of new games like they really, really, want to do. It's not going to hit release, but I can't honestly see them NOT raising price to 70+ USD a year or two after release.
