Ed Klein is an author in the same sense that an asylum inmate writing on the wall in their own feces is.

I can't imagine what the market for this book would be. It just strikes me that the people who wouldn't immediately dismiss this as total bullshiat probably don't/can't read.

And publishing these things can't just be about making bulk sales to conservative rags to give out for donations, can it?

So the republicans walked into an obvious trap and Obama is the 'Amateur'.

2013-10-18 10:07:44 AM
It was Jarrett who advised Obama that voters would mostly blame Republicans if the federal government ground to a halt, providing a golden opportunity to swing back control of the House to Democrats in the 2014 mid-term elections, according to Klein.

basically this article admits two things: Obama and the dems were just as culpable in the shutdown as the republicans, perhaps even more so.  And they would be given a free pass - even though they were culpable, they would not be blamed.  And the media didn't blame them.

2013-10-18 10:10:14 AM
"It was during one of those nightly sessions that Jarrett devised the no-negotiating strategy that Obama has employed in his fight with the GOP over the government shutdown," Klein said, citing sources within the administration.

Klein continued, "Such sources include Connie Munism, Ken Yan, Benjamin O'ghazi and a variety of other insiders who I'm told aren't actually real people but that just shows you how dangerous this situation is."  "Now, I don't know how deep this conspiracy goes as I haven't heard Rush yet today but it's totes serious," Klein said.  He then declared he would stare directly into the sun in protest until the President admitted his crimes and resigned in disgrace.  Emergency rescue units arrived shortly thereafter to escort a beleaguered Klein to the emergency room for treatment.  As the ambulance raced off, a desperate cry, "Look what you've done to me, Obama!" could be heard from inside.

"President Obama's top adviser Valerie Jarrett was behind a plan to force a showdown" should be rewritten as "President Obama's top adviser Valerie Jarrett was behind a plan to provoke a showdown." Obama didn't force a shutdown anymore than a bullfighter forces a bull to charge. He just knew the bull would charge if he twirled his cape in front of it.

This is the same "reporter" that said that Obama rudely walked out of a meeting with Netanyahu in Isreal to go have dinner with Michelle and the kids.  The fact that Michelle and kids were still in the US was a fact that escaped this cutting edge reporter.

The real culprit here is Captain Obvious who must've snuck into the White House to inform President Obama of all these important things.

Because she recognized the consequences of Republican derp, she is the architect?  Ridiculous.  I liked the game theory analysis of the situation... it's a game of chicken.  The ONLY way that Obama could win was throwing the steering wheel out the window.  He did the right thing, both politically, and pragmatically.

Yup Obama with the help of some person who wrote a book used mind control rays to force Republicans into being intractable assholes over the ACA to force a shutdown and possible default. You, the NYPost and some guy selling a book have cracked this thing WIDE OPEN.

President Obama's top adviser Valerie Jarrett was behind a plan to force a showdown with Republicans over ObamaCare as part of a strategy to regain Democratic control of the House next year, claims author Ed Klein.

Klein - who wrote a provocative biography about Obama last year entitled "The Amateur" - said White House insiders refer to Jarrett as "The Night Stalker" because she is the only presidential aide who frequently spends time in the family quarters and dines with the Obamas.

Yeah, there's not a single, solitary word in there I believe is true.  Way to go, NY Post, you squamous Murdoch-infested rag.

No. The word you're looking for is "alleges". Only a similar statement from Obama or Jarrett herself or someone else in the loop who chooses to forego anonymity could be an admission. Anything relying on unnamed sources or hearsay or even speculation is only an allegation. But no matter, perhaps I'm being pedantic. For the sake of argument let's take every statement in tfa at face value.

...two things: Obama and the dems were just as culpable in the shutdown as the republicans, perhaps even more so.  And they would be given a free pass - even though they were culpable, they would not be blamed.  And the media didn't blame them.

Tfa doesn't say anything about culpability for the shutdown. I read the same article and all I saw was discussions about strategy should the shutdown happen. Nothing more. The only possible way you could construe the White House actively making the shutdown happen from what's in tfa is to employ the 'begging the question' fallacy, the unspoken question being "should Obama immediately cave to the Republicans' demands should they hold the government hostage?".

And you pulled "perhaps even more so" out of your own ass.

Confirmation bias is loads of fun and all, but it's never a path to the truth, mmmkay?

Yah, but it's still a badly written sentence. The quote is floating there in limbo between "Jarrett [...] advised" and "Klein said." It needs to belong squarely to one or the other. That's a separate issue from Klein's straw man construction.

It's classic Projection. Since the Republicans have their puppetmasters in Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove and Wolfowitz, they immediately presume the Democrats must have their own cabal of diabolical masterminds as well. They've even nominated a financial backer equivalent to the Kock bros. in George Soros.

It doesn't matter to them that most Democrats and liberals have barely even heard of these people (that just proves how dangerous and powerful they are!), this is the narrative the Republicans are pushing.

badhatharry: I particularly like how they changed strategy midstream. When they were getting bad press for not negotiating they simply say, "We have been negotiationg."

So then they have some negotiations. Republicans offer several deals. Obama rejects them all.

The CR they were fighting over WAS negotiated. There was a deal that it would be MUCH smaller than the Democrats wanted, and Boehner wouldn't start a fight about Obamacare. After someone has already gone back on a deal, why would you continue to negotiate with them?

/Funnily enough, the individual mandate they were biatching about? That was ALSO a compromise with Republicans, as the original bill had a true public option.

Klein - who wrote a provocative biography about Obama last year entitled "The Amateur"
