fusillade762: The proper way of dealing with a spider in your car.

It's spider season up here in Seattle and there's a lot of people who'd be cool with the drone strike version of your solution.

My guess would be Australia.  When it bites, claws, or stings, it's always safe to bet on Australia.

I had the drainage tube on my AC plug up once.  It ended up draining onto the floor of the passenger side.  It was some kind of milky gooey crap that plugged it up.  I suppose it could have been spiders though I figured it was mold.  There was certainly mold in the carpet after it got soaked like that.

That's not an Australian toilet. The water level doesn't come that high up the bowl in Australia.

In a spider-free world, instead of the spiders making a nest and clogging the A/C drain, we would have needed to wait until the clog happened naturally. Meaning that this problem would have gone undiscovered for years.

Thanks Spiders!

"The vehicles involved are model year 2012 and 2013 Camrys, Venzas and Avalons, including hybrid versions of those cars."

Yessss. Once again, my 2007 Matrix slides under the recalls.

Although to be fair, I DID see some kind of orb-weaver wandering around on my dashboard a few weeks ago while I was driving home from school. Pretty sure it came in through the vents, but it disappeared again (on the passenger side) so I just locked the car, went in the house, and assumed it either got out or died later from being in the oven that is my car in the sun.

The last car I rented for business travel was a 2013 Avalon.  Had I known about this ahead of time I'd have packed the flamethrower in my carry-on.

So let me get this straight. You're telling me you've got a car where someone could just be driving along, and then the airbag explodes on them and they get covered with spiders.

That is the most metal thing I've ever heard in my entire life. High five.

Urgh... I once inhaled a spider...

It nearly choked me to death.....iurgh,,,

I had a piece of clear rubber tube, and there was a spider crawling on the floor. I wanted to look closer at it, but it was moving.
So I decided to suck it into the tube, so I could get a closer look at it without holding it.

I sucked too hard and the spider got breifly stuck in the opening of my windpipe - it took 4-5 seconds to cough it back up.

So that's the story about how I became arachnophobic.
Thanks, childhood!

I'm betting the air bag parts were made near Fukushima, these are no ordinary spiders...

FTA: Sometimes, their webs can create a blockage in a drainage tube coming from the air conditioning condenser. That can cause water to drip down onto an airbag control module, causing a short circuit. That, in turn, could cause the airbag warning light to light up on the dashboard and it could even cause the driver's side airbag to deploy, something that happens with explosive force.

Rube Goldberg called, he wants his gadget back.

I actually had something similar happen with my other Matrix - in the older model, at least, it's easy to accidentally disconnect that tube so that it drains inside the car. I about killed my dad when I found out he'd been driving my vehicle around Ohio like that for two weeks. The water was literally sloshing around on the passenger side.

/it got totaled less than a year later by an unrelated moron
//saved me from yelling at him later if the floor had rusted out, I suppose.

but instead of shrapnel and fire, you get spiders.

/I'll take the shrapnel, thanks.
