What they should be more concerned about is false advertising. The picture clearly shows spidergirl in her real attire, yet the actual product is pink with a skirt! That's blatant false advertising there. It's like buying chicken and then you get a pack of carrots.

The Wife, the boy and myself were at the "Halloween Store" last nite looking for something for the boy to wear for a costume this year. For only 6 it's cool that he likes the scary things and not all the commercial pre-packaged super hero costumes that line the aisles. The girls costume section was rather small in comparison to the boys costume selection and one thing stood out. Almost all of of the costumes were "pink". Both the wife and myself mentioned to each other how it was odd to have the female costumes done up like this.

As a fairly busty lady, I'd like to say wtf? Nobody's boobs look like that. If she had no cleavage showing, you'd think they're props.
Doc took her literally when she said she wanted nice melons. They're like the size and shape of a honeydew.

I guess you go girl. More power to ya. When you get too old to possibly have beachballboobies, have them cut off all the extra skin when you size down. Otherwise it looks like your chest is melting.

Seriously, menfolk- do you consider that attractive enough for everyday use? Or is it just a one-off, so to speak?

Socks & pajamas come in a multitude of colors.  Spider-girl costumes don't.  Girls *are* allowed to like pink, but the Halloween costume people seem to mistake that as "girls ONLY like pink".

616 Marvel had a Spider-Girl, too. She changed her name a few times. Arana, etc... But I think she's back to being Spider-Girl.

And once again, One More Day had NOTHING to do with the Spider-Girl from the alternate future. She was in a different universe, NOT the 616 universe, and her fate was not tied to the 616 Peter Parker anyway.

The current 616 Spider-Girl was originally Arana, and Joey Q took the Spider-Girl name for his pet sassy Latina character, because he could.

Before the MC2 character,  Marvel only had various characters called Spider-Woman, no Spider-Girls

I have a granddaughter, and I don't mind that she love pink and purple. I just want to be more confident that it's her choice.

My mom was a stay at home mother, who worked a few part time secretarial jobs when the boys got older. And she was great, and if my grandaughter grew up to be like her, that would be OK. But my mom's choices were made from too narrow a range, and I'd like to be sure the world gets a chance to benefit from my grandaugther's best effort in what ever field she's most fulfilled by.

I also believe that a world that attempts to stand in her way will be made to suffer, or at least pretty stupid when they all realize how awesome she is.

1.- Uh, yeah, real boobs can look like that. Notice she's raising her right arm which makes the breast to naturally go up and since it's strapped down by the suit it looks like a bolt-on, but check out the left breast, it's pretty natural. Don't get jealous.

2.- Yes, I find that attractive enough for everyday use. In fact, I do use it every day. Don't worry though, I don't discriminate so if a girl not so well endowed catches my attention I won't turn it down because of that reason.

I decided to go with the most ridiculously sexualized costumes out there, and power girl cosplay seemed like a good start.  I have no idea what those bosoms look like in their natural state, and assume that the costume is doing a lot of work that I don't see.

Short answer, most of us guys like women.  Boob size is details, so long as they fall within very broad guidelines.

1- believe me, I'm not jealous. I'm not that big, but I got molested by the boys in school because they were early and large. You know, grabass? Grabtits. Well, grabass happened to me, too
I'd rather they were smaller, especially then, but oh well.
I can see what you're saying, though, the outfit is doing a serious push-up job, which does push them into that shape sometimes.
Also, my mom-in-law is built like that. Revision noted.

2-I'm certainly not worried about your choices. They're your choices. I'm not advocating any particular size, mind you.
And thanks for answering!

It's true, and the thing that always confuses me in debates like this is to what extent marketing products like this are simply a reflection of consumer preferences, and how much is an actual force that changes or pushes those preferences one way or another.

I suppose I should mention right now that I see the genderification (specific products for one gender or another rather than having gender-neutral things) of everything for kids to be problematic in and of itself. I further think that the specific gender roles assigned to boys and girls are also limiting on both side.

If we could just say that the only reason they're on the shelves is that people buy them, and so therefore it's just reacting to attitudes that are already there, well, I guess there's no problem that they reflect an incredibly reductive view of the position of women in society.

But I don't think that's the case.  I think that the power of marketing is such that making these things available in such an all-pervasive way, everywhere we and our kids look, actually shapes how we think about gender.  I mean, if marketing didn't affect our opinions and attitudes, people wouldn't spend money on it, would they? The whole point of marketing is to make us believe it's incredibly important to feel a certain way about the whiteness of our shirts, or the exclusivity of our luggage, or the colour of the stacking rings our infants use. (yes, this is an actual example: multi-coloured stacking rings for boys and shades of pink ones for girls.  I just about screamed out loud in the toys-r-us when I saw that)

Uh... I forgot if I had a point. Probably not.

Maybe that companies should have a responsibility to promote positive and non-reductionist images. But that doesn't make them as much money, so they won't.
