The TEA party had a loaded gun with a hair trigger, pressed to the head of the American people and the world finacial market.

You don't have to be smart or clever to be dangerous.

The Tea Party indeed had a gun to our heads, but the ret of them have been slipping us arsenic for a long time. What happened yesterday alleviated some symptoms of our problems in the short term, but has done nothing to truly lead this country.

Actually it has. The Debt ceiling can not effectively be used again as a hostage again. The GOP are going to have to negotiate like adults.

Still I expect a few more tantrums and power plays, but at least the gun has been peen put in a locked safe.

Anyone who says "Obama is spiking the ball" as a teatard dog whistle is well, teatarded.

Unless "chest-thumping" is some new Tea Party dog whistle or something.

Then it would be a racist, terrible headline.

Politics is often a game of habit.

Democrats had gotten into the habit of negotiating with the GOP back in the 80s with Reagan and Bush sr.  The GOP then was sane and if you gave them something, they gave you something in return.  This habit of cooperation persisted even long after the GOP changed into a new creature that took advantage of that habit of negotiation that the Democrats still had.

Now, the Democrats have a habit of telling the GOP to fark off.  The only question is, how long does that habit persist, especially given that the GOP isn't changing back into a rational creature that negotiates.

On topic: Good.  They deserve to do a bit of chest-thumping and I'm glad to see Democrats with a good solid sense of pride in what they've accomplished and I hope America truly realizes what the Democrats accomplished for them.

InmanRoshi: Silly Democrats, don't they know you're supposed to rake in the cash DURING the crisis?

In some corners - that is, among allies of top Republican leaders like Boehner, Cantor and McCarthy - anger is growing with conservatives inside and outside the Capitol.

Asked who won in these two weeks, Rep. Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) said "the people that managed to raise a lot of money off this."

Yep. Sadly, Ted Cruz is probably going to have money flooding in from all over the country after this mess. If only 2% of the population are complete nut-jubs, that is still a lot of people sending checks.

The Dems have been going full court press on fund raising.  At least one fundraising mailing per week, 2+ phonecalls each week.  I've gotten more requests in the last 8 weeks than I did in the previous presidential campaign.  And getting people to think/engage is even more important than raising the money.  You don't get the attention of the US public often or for long.

Speaking as someone from the left, I hope Democrats will be willing to negotiate now on things like entitlement reform in exchange for increasing tax revenue.  Our spending has gone up considerably in the last 8 years at an increasing rate.  Realistically, I don't think that will be sustainable without seriously consider some spending cuts - the kind that address the reality of the aging baby boomers and a younger work force that is too small to support them.

They are week in the wider world.  But cut that down to a world where the only people are low information slogan driven voters that require purity tests of their candidates, they are quite powerful.

This entire fiasco was a demonstration that the GOP has been captured by a bunch of nutjobs.  The only remaining question is what happens to the moderate GOP?  Do they just evaporate?  Do we get a new party with the nutters going all TEA all the time?

We get to see this circus again in January - enjoy the GOP self destruction circus until then, and we'll see if they can get down to new lows at the beginning of the year.
