That's okay, the rampant poverty and social inequality we're creating will more than drive birthrates too-high.

Vasectomies should be free. Mine cost $700 and was worth every penny.

Funny, all it took for me was having a two year old and a newborn. After that, I had no doubt that I wanted zero chance of having a third brat. I was willing to do ANYTHING to avoid having another kid.

/other than giving up on sex
//or go back to wearing condoms

It'll never happen - but I'd love to see them be made mandatory.

Headline should read "Rise in vasectomies linked to recession."

"Gee, I'm broke - best ensure I don't accidentally have a kid." Seems entirely reasonable.

I have friends who are terrified of having this done.  But in reality, having my last crown put on was worse than getting the pipes clipped.  most docs will give you something for anxiety so its not that bad.  The procedure is pretty quick, but it is awkward having a conversation with someone while they are cutting on your junk.

When it's  all over milk the sympathy for everything you can.  Oh btw, don't look at the instrument tray before they get started.  You don't want to know about the crochet hook-looking thing.

What is wrong with knowing that they are going to insert that into a small incission to fish out your tubes so they can clamp them?

Probably will have this done next year sometime.  I have been moving to a "hell no" stance on more kids but have yet to get there even after ~2 years of baby 2.

Really?  Mine was completely covered by my insurance.
Still would have been worth every penny, though.

Something tells me you should have thought about it sooner.

It's not so much the awkward the conversation but I freaked a little bit when he cauterized the tubes and I heard sizzling and smelled burnt flesh.

Agree on that part.  I'm not a fan of burning smells especially when they emanate from my junk.
Having it taped to my belly was a little weird as well.

Seeing the instrument tray was enough to let my imagination make it worse than it was.

It'll never happen because of the religious nutters. I was 43 when I got mine but know someone who got one when he was in his early 20's. He said he had to go to about 30 doctors before finding one that didn't flat out refuse because he "needed to have children first." Same thing with my ex. She had/has HORRIBLE endometriosis and really could have used a hysterectomy early in life but not a single doctor would do it for the same reason. After she gave birth to our son she had complications and then got a partial and the surgeon said her uterus was seriously messed up.

I wish I knew about him before I got mine. I had to go through several docs to finally get one done. The one that did it wouldn't have if I wasn't married.

/two vasectomies
//You really don't want to know how they do the second one
///Wait for the all clear from the doc, you might regret it otherwise.

Got mine at 21. Had to lie my ass off to the doctor for him to do it (Why yes, I do plan on traveling around alot with my career). Best 35$ ever spent. If I decide to want a kid, Ill get with someone who has one already.

I had to drop about $800 on one earlier this year - I have insurance but hadn't reached my deductible.  Insurance should seriously pay you to get it done.  You're virtually guaranteeing that they won't have to cover any more pregnancies, childbirths, or dependents, so it saves them a shiatton of money.  They should kick some of that back to you, or at least lower your rate a little.

You would expect a great American company to plan past the current financial quarter?

That America died sometime last century.

Right? Some dudes are also irrationally afraid of a prostate exam. Dudes are a bunch of pansies.

Most of us aren't thrilled with the idea of fingers in our buttholes, but it's still better than cancer
