Gah this guy is creepy looking!!! Crazy eyes FOR SURE.

Mega-church pastors are, by and large, self aggrandizing AWs who are obsessed with money. And they all have veneers. And poor taste in clothing.

Vanity. My favorite sin.

The fuzz should probably see if wifey is still alive. Can't wait for the rest of the story!

Confabulat: What is a one year isolation program ?

Probably isolated from church attendance.  If you're sinning and unrepentant, if you're "under church discipline", you might be excluded.  Certainly, you'll be excluded from ministry for a year or 2 until you get your head straight.

Verse goes something like:  Talk to them alone.  If they don't repent, bring a witness.  If they still don't repent, tell it to the church.  You might kick them out of the church so that their own sin runs it's course and they hopefully come to repentance.

Similarly, Paul writes advice to a church where there was a member doing something pretty odious.  That church finally does exclude him, but later he does repent.  Paul writes them again telling them to let him back in.

A step like this is generally the result of a process where witnesses are involved, the elders are involved, evidence is presented and a 'restoration plan' (for the person) is laid out.  In my denomination, the pastor can't exclude people.  That decision belongs to the elder board.

The whole point is to limit the damage they do to the noobs in the church and to rehabilitate the person.  Not a get out & stay out, but go through this process and you'll be welcome back.  A buddy of mine was 'disfellowshiped' from his church for being a raging d'bag.  He kept trying to connive his way back.  "Did you do what they asked you so that you could go back?"  "No."  Finally, a few years later, he did turn around.

We're not 'under law' sin-wise, but some behaviors can be pretty damaging.

I predict a tragic death in his wife's future.

TimeCubeFan: Hmmm, David Miscavige's (Scientology head) wife was supposedly sent to a similar isolation program. Hasn't been heard from in years now. How convenient. Imagine if king Henry VIII had thought of this brilliant plan.

Ireland finally says sorry to the 10,000 'Magdalene Sister slaves' of its Catholic workhouses who were locked up and brutalised by nuns

/ But hey, those slaves are white, so I guess they better check their privilege.

That one is definitely a 'One-timer'. Hits a little too close to home for me.

 . . . how his wife of 23 years became a whore with multiple affairs  . . .

. . . . and proved it by showing all the videos he took of her escapades.

Major Ethanolic: On the one hand, I don't wish his spouse troubles on anyone -- or take pleasure in his misfortunes. On the other hand, this just proves Xians are not immune to life, despite what they preach and pretend to believe. Most self-aggrandizing mega-church pastors are almost invariably "in the ministry" for one thing: money.

/so conflicted

Don't be. Mega churches are generally terrible, in my opinion, because for one thing they are run like pyramid schemes. Again, my opinion, but they prey on people who are lost in life and expect them to give give give in exchange for 'salvation'.

However, I grew up going to an American Baptist church (WAY DIFFERENT from Southern Baptist btw), which emphasized charity and community far above any kind of profit or 'spreading the gospel'. These were people who volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, run a food pantry for the community, have a church garden, raise funds with bake sales, pancake breakfasts, run a preschool for the area, and an annual rummage sale, and sent a lot of aid to Haiti when things were bad in the 80s (just what I remember, there's probably more).

That is the main reason I don't hate all Christians, despite being pretty lapsed myself at this point. I saw and sometimes helped firsthand with how it is supposed to be done.
