"They [local officials] said it over and over again that it could never be reopened," she said. "So now I don't know ... what could really happen legally at this point."

Local cops and prosecutors, lying through their teeth?

Must be a day that ends in "Y".

It's really very sad that young rape victims have to rely on social media to find justice...and even then, it's iffy.  The Steubenville rapists got off light (digital penetration as opposed to vaginal and anal penetration?  Really?).  There was video, what about statutory rape Mr. Prosecutor?

Since there was no trial, since the girl's family states they are eager to testify, it should be easy to refile charges, right??

The original article was pretty damning, but it was also very one sided.  The police and prosecutors may be telling the truth regarding why the charges were dropped, who knows.

If it was supposedly videotaped, do the police not have that video?  If they did it would seem to make this a slam dunk, so maybe they don't.

The trouble with cases like this is that now that close to two years have passed since the incident occurred, it will 10x more difficult to prove anything now than it would have been at the time.  There likely should have been a trial when this was all still fresh.

Now, they can likely refile charges, and maybe they should, but unless they have any new evidence they're now looking at a nearly two year old he-said/she-said.

I would guess criminal charges followed by a civil suit.  Which is what should have happened in the first place.

The prosecutor claimed there just wasn't enough evidence that a crime had been committed.

I kid you not.

He's not going to be there very long.  The charges will be reinstated now that their utter shiattiness has been dragged out into the open, just like in Steubenville.

I never understood how that was supposed to screw with someone. If they didn't order them they won't have to pay for them. The only thing it does is screw over the pizza place that has to eat the food costs on the fake order.

Except that the sheriff did believe, did a thorough investigation, got arrest warrants and locked the punks up for as long as he could.  It was the DA that dropped the case, much to the sheriff's astonishment.

But don't let the facts blind you.

Smart pizza places DON'T take orders for tens of pizzas COD. No pizza place takes orders for 100+ pizzas.
