Looks like Boehner has even agreed to vote on the bill first, allowing the Senate to fast track it as a 'privileged' bill.

Well, Cruz got what he wanted - total capitulation.  just not by the the other side.

So they will delay this fight for 3 more months? Is that the plan? Do this indefinitely until the 2016 elections?

I think it's a play to bring a bill to eliminate the debt ceiling.  There's no f*cking way they do this again.  There might be riots in the streets.

can't.  new round of changeover next year...  and if they start it up again, shane could've booked a better heel turn on the teabaggers.

Considering how badly this turned out for the GOP, I hope and pray that they try this again in Jan/Feb.

They'll somehow end up with negative poll numbers.

oh hell no, never ever underestimate the power of stupidity from the GOP.  We're just kicking the can down the road.

Also, the more the shiat goes on, the less time Obama has to work on domestic policy.

I'm just waiting for the Republican face turn in the same vein as McCain's taking the microphone from the crazy old lady and being a Proper Human Being about his opponent.

If they try this again, Obama will just point and laugh, and it will be twice as bad for the GOP next time.  Plus it will be closer to mid-terms.

This game is over.  Maybe the GOP doesn't know it yet, but it's over.

"Cruz, do you recall what Gingrich said about shutdowns? He said they were too important to be left to the President. When he said that, almost 20 years ago, he might have been right. But today, shutdowns are too important to be left to the Democrats. They have neither the time, nor training, nor the inclination for strategic thought necessary to bring down the US economy. Right now, a decision is being made, by the President and John Boehner in the Oval Office in Washington, and when Boehner realizes how f*cked he truly is, there will be only one course of action open; total capitulation".

2013-10-16 11:17:10 AM
The surprise that will come along in a week or two (if you can consider it a surprise) is that our credit rating will go down again anyway, and the message will be, "It's insane to gamble with default and go as close to the edge as you did.  You're being punished even for doing that.  You are looking less credible every day."

And thus the economy gets knocked back into recession.

But of course both sides are bad so vote hijacker.

Has the Senate said how much they want to increase spending ?   It would be nice if they could just give a round number,   like 800 Billion.

That way we will know if we are going to get subsidized college, food, clothing, cars and such

2013-10-16 11:17:33 AM
Whatever deal we get in January/February will punt the ball to December 31, 2014. Looking forward to another blue election followed by more red intransigence at the fiscal cliff.

Boehner has to allow a vote. It's one thing if the House passes a bill that doesn't get approved by the Senate, they can say "the other side didn't compromise". It's worse if the House tries to pass their bill, but the vote fails. But if the House spends the entire last week before default without ever even voting on a single proposed solution, there is absolutely no way this can be portrayed as anyone else's fault.

I don't understand how Boehner didn't realize that yesterday.

Route them right down the road into the crapper.

Sometimes I wish the winning party of the White House governed like the Premier in the U.K. governs: you run the country with full backing of the legislature and pass all the bill you want. The checks and balances between the Executive and the Legislative branch is just too flawed at times.
