I told you two weeks ago they weren't going to be the worst... I'm not sure 9th is right, but way not at the bottom.

Sharks are too damned low.

netweavr: Sharks are too damned low.

6-0, most goals scored. Of course, they were 6-0 last year too...

1) Happy to see the Jets and the Sharks doing well

2) Canucks need to stop being bad

3) Lots of big moves, it's especially interesting to see Thomas doing so poorly after rage quitting the league.

I have absolutely no doubt that it won't last.

We're not last!  We're not last!  Whooooo...just trying to get a win before the NY Giants do.

No argument with the Wings at #13.

They're 5-2 and could very, very easily be 1-6.

They've played one good, all-around game all year long (against Philly). They haven't played more than one good period in any of the others.

They played well against the Bruins in the second period of Monday's game.

But I can see where you're coming from because they almost shiat the bed in the 3rd.

The Ducks have dominated in their last two games, a 6-0 win over the Rangers and a 4-1 win over Ottawa in which they had 56 shots on goal, but their ranking is hindered by G Viktor Fasth's struggles in the first game of the season, when they lost 6-1 at Colorado.

This is why you suck Cullen.

Way to go Patrick Roy! I was skeptical of the hire and it is obviously just 6 games in, but they are playing like they care for the first time in years.

from the Miami Herald yesterday:
Dineen said Thomas, who spent eight years with Boston, is questionable for Thursday's matchup against the Bruins at BB&T Center.

Hmmmm....

There we are.  Now granted the team itself is a poorly constructed mess but Martin is a slave to his system and is allergic to creative offense.

The PDO is one of the reasons I'm pissed that NHL.com took down the shot map for each game.  I'd bet a few bucks that 1/2 to nearly 2/3 of the shots Toronto gives up are outside/bad angle ones.

I do sincerely hope I'm wrong, but I'm predicting that this west coast road trip for the Flames is going to end the firewagon start to the season.

I was at the Flames/Devils game and if it weren't for a couple of lucky bounces on Brodeur, we could have easily lost that game.

It's not really that the Flames have been punching above their weight, their opponents just haven't been at their best.

It's not just Leaf goalie save percentages.  The goalies are actually pretty good.  It's mostly that if any of you Leaf fans think they'll continue scoring at a rate of over 13% of their shots (equating to opposition save percentages below .870), I have bad news for you.

As a lifelong Sabres fan I just finished brewing another 5 gallons of strong ale along with a gallon and a half of mead.  That's 3 batches in the fermenter and 2 in the bottle with another 3 kits on the shelf.  It's still not going to be enough to get me through the season.

/Then I'll need more for the Fark playoff threads.

Just for giggles, I just checked the PDO for the Buds... 1.032  (sixth most lucky so far, btw) and the exact same number it was last season as the top over-achieving team.

Yes, that will be tough to keep up.  All they have to do to make the number look more realistic is take more shots that don't go in!

Hope the Hawks bring it against the Blues tomorrow night, should be a great game. The Blues are the team I'm most excited to see play Chicago now that the Wings are out of the division.

Plus I'm from Peoria where the Rivermen play, formerly STL's feeder team, lots of Blues fans in those parts.

That's what drives me nuts about this, if they only need 20 shots to get the win who cares?  I remember for a few years the Panthers were amongst the league leaders in shots per game and they still sucked moose cack.

Like I said, I was at the Devils game and that penalty kill where Bouma made those two big blocks, the whole place went off. There was some real electricity in there and my pessimism about this season was kicked back at least a couple of notches.

That said, still 76 games to go.

That's a lot.

Yeah Dude, The Dome has been getting quieter and quieter every year. Glad to hear there is some life in the building again......But yeah, lots of hockey left and I think your earlier point about the upcoming West Coast Swing will be very telling of what they can and can not do as a hockey club.

2013-10-16 02:39:41 PM
When I read things from Leafs fans here or on HFBoards, for example, their self-righteousness, delusions and thin-skinned behaviour is always a source of amusement. Sure, Toronto is off to a great start, but luck and playing weaker teams will do that. It's hard to deny what Grantland wrote about the team a few days ago.

Grafs coming soon...

2013-10-16 03:04:29 PM
This makes no sense.  The Flames shoot from 28 to 9 because they win a few games based on the early production of a rookie, and Winnipeg (3-3) goes from 23 to 12 because Michael Frolik, who has never been a huge producer, as a good week, while the Ducks win two, but only inch up from 16 to 15 because their backup goalie had a bad start 5 games ago at the Avs home opener.
