They said you was hung....and they was right!

Vetinari would have put him in charge of the post office.

Better hanged twice than given the electric chair twice.

Cagey B: Better hanged twice than given the electric chair twice.

The dissenting opinion asked just how many attempted executions it took before it became cruel and unusual punishment

Nice to see the SCOTUS hasn't changed a bit

He has to wait until he is well for the next attempt?

Terrible that they leave him hangin' like that....

If at first you don't succeed...

It's so nice that we are above executing people in the U.S.

But still a few places below Iran and China apparently.

Good news, and bad news..

But when his family went to collect his body for burial a day later, they discovered he was still breathing.
A relative said: "When we went to the coroner's office we found him alive again which made his two daughters very happy."

This guy has one hell of a shiatty family.  Why couldn't they just keep their mouths shut and collect the "body"?

This would never stand in the TNG universe.

And now they have a sad.  To think that they could have just kept quiet and rolled him out of there.  Buried an empty coffin and moved away.

2013-10-16 01:53:25 PM
I thought the rule was that if you survived execution, no matter the manner, you were to be set free.
I guess that rule doesn't apply in Iran.  Or any other rules that make much sense...

It's all right, Taggart. Just a man and a horse being hung out there,

Jeez....

Reminded me of that scene in The Green Mile.

I guess that they don't use the "snap the neck" method but the "slowly suffocate" method. Those farkers make me sick.

2013-10-16 02:15:38 PM
Wouldn't it be prudent to just have a gun on hand if the rope doesn't kill the guy?

2013-10-16 02:27:10 PM
Hangin is a very exact science. It's very math heavy. You've got to get the rope the right length, you've got to get the right counterweight, and a dozen different details that I'm forgetting.

Basically; everything from the composition of the rope; down to the prevailing wind currents needs to be tabulated. If you do it wrong; either the condemned's head pops off, or their neck doesn't break and they asphixiate.

Is it any crueler than paralyzing someone so that they suffocate without being able to express discomfort?

Hey, you guys screwed up! This is great! Uh, right?

2013-10-16 02:38:10 PM
Condemned: So I'm here 'till I die?
Iran: Until we kill you, yeah
Condemned: Then why bother curing me?
Iran: We always insist on everyone being healthy before they're executed

There was an old Ripley's Believe It Or Not I remember where they said some man hanged back in the Old West days had apparently survived the hanging, and awoke once in the coroner's (or mortician's) care. The c (or m) then simply struck him on the head with a mallet, killing him, and went about doing whatever it was he was supposed to do.

It's actually an episode in S3 of M*A*S*H, where Col. Flagg brings in a wounded POW and orders the Dr's to patch him up so he could be transported to Seoul for execution.

valar_morghulis: THEOCRACY OF PEACE

If they hanged him for 12 minutes and he didn't asphyxiate or break his neck, then Allah willed him to live. What kind of farked up theocracy is this where they do not submit to the will of God. Clearly we should bomb them and earn God's favor.

Iran is thought to have executed 560 people this year, including 200 since new "moderate" president Hassan Rouhani came to power in June.

Crimes punishable by death include theft and "un-Islamic behaviour". Only China executes more people.
