saintstryfe: CPennypacker: I guess I just don't get it. Are they supposed to be funny?

they can be. Most of the funnier ones have too-strong-for-fark language (or are animated and too big for Fark to post) so i don't use them personally. I think it's more a slight humiliation - your victim is being shut-down by pastel cartoon ponies.

It helps the show itself is very decent and fun, if you're subjected to kids shows it's definitely one of the least objectionable (funny given its roots as a strictly toy-selling series).

Oh. A lot of the ones I see here are versions of memes that originated with different photos, like i see what you did there, oh wait you're serious, etc

I guess they're funny if you have a pony fetish.  There's been an influx of people who masturbate to pony porn in the last months.
/or maybe they were always here, but just came out of the stable recently

How in the Hell did these batsh*ts become the Masters of all our Destinies????????

Because we were trying to avoid this fight. Unfortunately they pushed until this fight was inevitable and now we won't back down. They thought we were pussy liberals who would cave at the first sign of stiff resistance, because we gave them everything we could afford to give in previous negotiations to avoid this crisis.

Now if the economy has to burn then it has to burn, because there is nothing left that we will give them. To put it in the parlance of the day, they took hostages and we negotiated in good faith the first time. Well they have taken hostages and this time we are assaulting their position to rescue the hostages. If they shoot the hostages that will be a tragedy, but it is on them.

Pretty good article.

Boehner and McConnell and McCain and the rest of the RINOs really should go suck Democrat cock and leave the party to true conservatives.

"We'll give you almost as much free stuff as the Democrats" is not a winning strategy.

/Seven minute abs! Just as good as the eight minute folk or we'll give you the extra minute for free!

I'll bet there are many teabaggers across the country right now, going "How come the libs fought back? They're not supposed to fight back! None of the libs ever fight back when they're on Fox News. I demand a law that all libs be prohibited from ever fighting back and we should win every time!"

Out of curiosity, why are only Republicans that have been in the party a few years real Republicans and all the ones who have been in it for decades RINOs?

I mean, what's more likely, the people who have been Republican their entire lives are the fake Republicans, or the tiny percentage of new comers who are fake Republicans?  Because speaking at a guess, I'd have to go with the tiny number of new people.

We're not new. The Goldwater wing has been fighting the Rockefeller Republicans for decades now.

Put another way: which group has achieved any part of a conservative agenda, and which group has achieved something between nothing and less than nothing?

I guess we will see later today. The Republican party is not the same as it once was even when George W Bush was president. With every election defeat the donors have moved the GOP more to its radical right. The Koch brothers and their ilk run the GOP show. Go to the Heritage Action site as an example, it's downright fascism.

In the near term? The Democrats hold 200 seats, there are 3 vacancies and the Republicans hold 232 seats. Assume the Senate's bill will pass and assuming for the moment all 200 Democrats vote for passage in the House that means 17 Republicans must commit career suicide today and side with the democrats for the good of the country. Frankly, check the roster for 17 such folks. I don't see that happening.

Current rumor is that the GOP will deliver about 50 votes for the plan. 50 votes.

Here is my opinion on where the Republican votes could come from: state, district, name:

NY 2 King
NY 11 Grimm
NY 19 Gibson
NY 23 Reed

NJ 3 Runyan

PA 6 Gerlach
PA 8 Fitzpatrick
PA 15 Dent

CA 10 Denham
CA 21 Valadao
CA 22 Nunes

FL 25 Diaz-Balant
FL 27 Ros-Lehtinen

IL 15 Shimkus

Then it gets really iffy, passage would require 3 of these Reps to join the Dems:

MO 8 Emerson
ND 1 Kramer
MS 3 Harper
LA 5 Alexander
UT 4 Matheson
AK 1 Young

So long, it's been good to know you.

I called my Congresswoman (Lynn Jenkins) a couple of hours ago and asked her to vote for the bill. I suspect she won't. Presuming that she doesn't, I plan on letting her know that I will do everything in my power short of criminal activity to try and end her time in Congress.

Good plan. Here is another opinion on which Republicans could support passage and avoid default:

http://www.govtrack.us/about/analysis#ideology

You mouse over the red dots and see how they might vote based on previous voting (ideology). Some folks on Fark might want to contact the "could support" members and give them a thumbs up or the Fark "both sides are bad could" could ignore the data.

She's already out of the equation. Essentially, when it became well known that she was only conservative for the seat/show/keeping political power, she decided to cash out and become a lobbyist.
She's been out of there since January.

Bet he does now (14:50 PDT 10/16/13).

Thanks. The Wikipedia article shows he could be quite rational. Still a slim chance?

Zero.
Negative, possibly.

He is the handpicked "should be more than conservative enough for any possible combination of conservatives." IE, "safe pick." This particular representative spot has been run by Bill Emerson's team since 1980; they are pretty much the cornerstone of politics in the system around here.
(IE, they ARE the good old boys/gals who run everything.)

The chances of him being replaced comes down to "does the Team think we need someone else, in order to stay in power."
-Not to say they aren't good folks; anytime they need problems to solve to prove their worth, their representative plays the hardest of hard balls.
---Why, yes, I owe them a favor or three.
---But... since neither JoAnn nor Bill is running (again, she's a lobbyist now, he's dead), I do not think I still owe those favors.

Dude, they still use yahoo for news, email, or search engine.  I think it goes without saying they don't know what's up.
