(Politico)   The GOP story of angry WWII vets "Storming the barry-cades" at the WWII memorial has one tiny flaw: it isn't actually true. Park Service employees have had instructions, since day one, to move the fences and allow veterans access to the monument   (politico.com) divider line 17

When has not being true ever stopped the GOP from saying anything?

Why didn't the GOP storm the closed MLK monument across the street?

time is tight: Dude does that actually mean something? Hell, I created my account just a couple years ago don't know exactly when I'm sure you'll find out, but I've been reading the site since about 2002. Never understood why people think posting on someone created their account some great riff, anyway of my two cents.

Recently created accounts with near nothing in their profiles and no submissions making highly inflammatory or blatantly trolling are generally suspected to be temp. troll accounts of regular posters.

Wellon Dowd: Who are the Republicans going to exploit in 20 years when all the WW2 vets are gone?

Vietnam vets.

If the media were at all competent, this would have been discovered and broadcast the first time a whine was whined.

timujin: But, but... I heard from a guy who knows someone who once worked with this dude with "connections" that there's a document in place that is a directive from the President himself to make life as difficult as humanly possible for the citizenry.

I really love this argument: Obama is required to shut off all non-mandatory or non-emergency spending, but the fact that public entertainment locations aren't considered mandatory and emergency in his mind is proof he's just putting the screws to your average American. I mean, I can understand if they were pointing to SNAP cuts as evidence of Obama "punishing" people for the shutdown, but somehow that isn't a problem since the people making these claims believe food stamps are a scam used by moochers and not Real Americans (who all regularly plan vacations to national parks in October, I'm sure.)

You mean to tell me that it was all staged political theater by the party who was responsible for closing the memorial in the first place?

Are you also trying to tell me that the people who actually believed the "OMG Obama closed it because he hates veterans and wanted to make republicans look bad" narrative are complete idiots?

You don't say.

BiffDangler: If there are park service people working there then why even have the fence in the first place?

Because Veterans of a war are assumed to not wreck the monument with garbage unlike the tourists that normally come through.

Likely because they are a skeleton crew and cannot maintain the place against regular levels of tourist traffic.

Oh isn't he just the most precious troll account?  His profile is adorable too.  Rarely I put someone straight on ignore.

Wait, I'm sorry.  I meant "different opinion account."

I'll say this:  I may say some dumb shiat sometimes, and said stuff that has gotten me ignored, and said stuff that I later regretted, but at least I did it with my one and only avatar on this forum.  Farking trolling alt chickenshiats.

This. Just like how Obama was investigating the privacy issues of the government before the NSA leaks. What a coincidence. Do the Total Farkers that regurgitate these talking points actually believe them or are they just being good soldiers?

Or maybe the explanation is the one that's blatantly obvious to anyone who has worked anywhere that serves the public. You know, that they had a skeleton crew there to deal with bare minimum keep-sh*t-from-falling-apart maintenance, but not the staff to responsibly function while open to the general public.

But whatevs.

I still think the President should have held a press conference at the memorial as soon as the whining started. Give a passionate speech about how the shutdown impacts everyone and these veterans are denied access to something that honors their sacrifice.

Then look at the barricades and proclaim, "Mister Boehner, tear down this wall". They would absolutely lose it and the entire debate would shift into how disrespectful Obama is and the veterans would figure out that the GOP only wanted cheap political props.

I'm so sick of all the crocodile tears over vets possibly being barred from these closed monuments. Even if it had happened, so what. Yes, it's sad, but there are about a million priorities more important in this whole catastrof*ck than a vet not getting to see the WWII monument.
