Shifting ocean currents are kind of a big deal. I saw a US military group (Minerva?) that worked with PACOM on assessing hurricane risks to Hawaii, and their worry was that shifting ocean currents would leave the islands open to more storms. I think this is a related link.

Yep, my armchair analysis suggests this will be the end of the "mostly neutral" levels of antarctic ice.

My plan, if I win the lottery, is to kidnap a polar bear and secretly release it on Antarctica. Just for the lulz.
