Good for them. Pretty much the only sitcom I still watch because it's always good for a laugh.

I tried watching Two Broke Girls this past week, and it was damn near painful to watch. Everything, especially the dialogue, just felt completely forced. The main brunette girl just has that look of "I really don't want to be here."

The blonde is gorgeous (fist of an angry god and all) but I can't watch that show, it's terrible. Canned laughter, Chuck Lorre, horrible stereotypes. It's a dumbed down show about geeks that caters to the lowest common denominator. Which probably explains why it's popular with American audiences.

I can't stand either show.  Most sitcom writing nowadays is just lazy.  I tried giving BBT a shot and didn't find it any better than anything else by Chuck Lorre.

Lately, I decided to just go back and work my way through Night Court and Cheers again.  Leagues better than most stuff coming out today.

The first few seasons on the BBT were really good, very funny. As they began to introduce more females and relationships it has gotten very watered down in the last couple of seasons IMO. The show just is not as funny as it once was. God, Two Broke Girls, I sat through ten minutes of non-stop sexual innuendo and could take no more. That show is a broken record from what I can tell.

/Would still ball either female on that show

It doesn't matter if you like the show or not. It brings in a ton of money for the network & producers, and I would rather see it go to the actors than to inflate CBS's bottom line & fund Chuck Lorre's coke habit.

I know 2.5 Men is a Fark favorite for kicking around, but the show is so beyond awful now it's laughable.  Whether people liked it or not, there was an element to it which I found funny during the Sheen years.  It wasn't high art, but it wasn't a parody, either.  Now it's so bad, it's worth watching because it is so bad.

Maybe that's what they're going for.

Umm it's a show about nerds. It would seem counter-productive to not have nerds on a show about nerds.

And Penny is there as a counter-balance to them. They learn how to not be socially awkward from her, and she learns about geek culture and science from them.

Doesn't really sound like horrible stereotypes, but people you would actually meet in real life.

Oh, so you personally know a lot of people with nice racks?

2013-10-16 11:45:41 AM
To be honest, the show kinda jumped the shark for me when Leonard and Penny got together.

Penny should have been the out-of-reach girl, the friend who doesn't want sex with him, but who he thinks he has a chance with. The girl who makes every one of his girlfriends feel nervous, the girl who he wrecks relationships trying to get, until one day he realises that she just isn't the girl for him, and there's one he has real feelings for.

I know lots of nerds. They have sex with girls that look like Stephanie and Alex.

Does the girl who plays Howard's wife actually have a large rack or do they just look big sometimes because she's so small? Honestly, sometimes they look smaller than average and other times you're like "whoa." Is this a physics thing?

That's because the show was originally about Penny and Leonard. Then the Sheldon Cooper character took the show over completely (see: "Family Matters" re Steve Urkel) in an effort to give the Sheldon character more situations to play off of, the ensemble element was introduced. The fact that the other 4 actors on the show are paid a pittance compared to the "leads" is an abomination. they have at least as much to do with the success of the show as leonard and penny. to the degree that they should be making at least 2/3rds what they make anyway.

I learned a few weeks ago that the actress who plays Bernadette went to my high school - she's in my freshman year yearbook.

When you film a sitcom, several takes are needed for any given scene.  Naturally, the biggest studio audience reaction will be to the first take.

The producers have freely admitted that they use a recording of that first reaction, mixed with the reaction of the scene that was eventually used in the final cut.  So what you are hearing is a genuine reaction to the scene, but perhaps not the actual take you are watching.

While I find a live studio audience to feel dated, if you're going to do it, I have no issue with the way they are doing it.

The best thing about Big Bang Theory is that when it finally ends, it will mark the end of this ridiculous "neo-geek" epoch, and we'll no longer hear about how "geeky" or "nerdy" everyone thinks they are.

The funny part is I know at least two or three people who could pass for just about any of the main characters on BBT, including one computer engineer who is so much like Sheldon it's almost frightening.  And my circle of friends regularly have discussions/debates about the same nerdy things as the show.  Hell we once had a twenty minute argument about what the definition of a cyborg is while playing some sort of last geek standing card game.  It got so heated we had to switch to another game.

I've only seen season 1, but through ~23 episodes, all the characters are stereotypes.

Penny is the small town girl from America's Heartland failing to make it as an actress in Los Angeles. She's a waitress. She doesn't have a last name. She's kind of dumb. She's super hot. Did I mention they haven't even given her a last name?

Leonard is a nerd, but the least nerdy of the nerds because he's the eyes of the (non-nerd) audience. He has a crush on the dumb hot girl across the hall, despite having nothing in common with her.

Sheldon is the uber nerd. He's very awkward around people. The other nerds are often exasperated with his uber nerdiness. He is (at least in season 1) asexual.

Howard is a Jew, and a nerd. He lives with his Jewish mom (because all single Jewish males live with their mom), who is a stereotypical Jewish harpy mother (from NY, even). He is, of course, totally incompetent with women, because all nerds are incompetent with women.

Raj is hilariously Indian. He's also hilariously unable to even speak to women unless he's drunk or related to them. It's hilarious.

Stereotypes? Yes. Horrible stereotypes? No. Damn near every show has stereotypes, but do they add to/explain the character, or are they only used for derision?

Penny doesn't have a last name yet because they've chosen to not reveal it yet.

Leonard is initially attracted to Penny because she's not. You don't need much more beyond that to get it started.

Sheldon has a girlfriend

Howard is married

Raj has gotten over his selective mutism

I find it hilarious that Farkers feel superior about this show, when some of the brightest minds on this planet love it. Stephen Hawking, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Mike Massimino, George Smoot. All of them love it and have guest starred on it. The fact that they have an actual physicist on staff to check every math formula and science reference just adds to it.

Face it, FARK hates it because it's popular. If it was some obscure show on BBC2, everyone would be creaming their pants over it.
