Well you sure as sh*t don't see Americans fleeing over the border to Mexico.

Give it a couple of days.

It would be beyond fantastic if Mexico wastes this gift by losing the playoff to New Zealand.

We'll love you until the next time we play you as Estadio Azteca where we will resume our tradition of pelting you with bags of piss.

Nice troll by US Soccer

Mexico spared through no real effort of their own. Now a chance to snag some frequent flier miles before the holidays with a trip to NZL!

It was fun watching the game in real time and getting updates about the Mexico game. Crazy and exciting finish, just how world cup qualifying should be!

The All Whites (no, really) should request the match be played at a neutral site.  Say, Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

If my brother in laws are any way like most Mexico fans that's going to be bad day. I was watching the game last night with them. They were on a emontional roller coaster

Any American who has ever dealt with Mexican team fans or simply played against Mexicans in pick up leagues will be pulling for NZ.  God knows I will be.

There would have been a rash of conspiracy theories coming out of Mexico if the US hadn't won.

They still should have thrown it.

I really wouldn't be shocked if Mexico did blow it. It's a downward spiral of self-loathing going on and New Zealand's not going to be coming in with anywhere near that mindset. They're from Oceania. They know this is where things lead for an Oceanian squad. Oceania as a whole has a bit of a chip on their shoulder because of the whole half-a-bid thing and they know if they want a full spot in the Cup, this is where business needs to be taken care of.

Besides, New Zealand's crowd typically has more swagger than most, win or lose. They're not going to lay down when they go to Azteca.

Mexico has been just horrible traveling this cycle, and the mystique of Azteca is gone. whether that's pyscology or teams come there better prepared and with a better game plan or modern athletes arent intimidated by the fans/altitude/smog or what, I don't know, but something has definitely changed in Mexico City. I'm really wondering if Mexico will start considering non-Azteca venues for future non-friendlies...

Trust me, if you watched the game, they tried really hard to throw it.

The difference is that opposing teams have just been packing the box when they are in Mexico, and since Mexico has had a TON of trouble scoring already, those games resulted in ties.

Yeah, I mostly agree. The US certainly did and Mexico probably should have come away with a win there, but I feel like teams have always kind of bunkered on the road to Mexico, and this cycle Honduras really took the game to them and won, and even Jamaica came out of their shell in Mexico more than I thought. Teams just aren't scared of them any more, and they shouldn't be.

Mexico has even looked pretty decent in defense and midfield, they're just absolutely toothless and inept attacking.

That is not Telefutura. That's TV Azteca, a Mexico-city based channel.

It's not as catchy as "Two World Wars and One World Cup, doo-dah, doo-dah", but it's catching on!
