He's probably worried about his portfolio.

Shall we ad him to the list?

The tea party doesn't care. They see a default as a victory and don't give a fark about consequences. Blood for the blood god is their mantra...and they mean to see their vision come true no matter how much it hurts the country.

abb3w: He's probably worried about his portfolio.

Very true.  But it really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that his morals and principles are as deep as his wallet.

Holy fark, Republicans!  If Pat freaking Robertson, the whitest, Jesusyest, Republican there is tells you to give up, DO IT ALREADY!

Yeah, but the tea baggers are winning, don't you see? They shut down IS their victory. Default is their crowning achievement. Their finest hour! They aren't going to evacuate in their moment of triumph.

He's worried about his supports losing everything. His temple can't house donated items as if it were a Goodwill.

If this isn't a sign of the apocalypse I don't know what is.

I can't decide which makes me more sad: that Pat Robertson is the one telling the GOP to back away from the cliff or the fact that I agree with Pat Robertson on something.

FTFA"They cannot shut the government down and then bring about a default. We can't do it. I mean, it would be devastating economically to every human being and the Republicans just can't get tarred with that."

Hmmm, glad to see he has some common sense. Not that it'll do him or the country any good right now.

Face it, america. The Tea party has destroyed you. You will default, your economy will collapse and you'll be relegated to the history books alongside every other failed empire.

...and then they'll blame the libruls for why they're not getting their SS and Medicare checks.

It's telling that a guy who has enough faith to believe that God speaks to him personally, who believed he knew end of the world would come in 1982 (despite the Bible being pretty clear that not even Jesus knows that), a guy who even believes that the Good Lord will look the other way on working with Charles Taylor to mine blood diamonds in Liberia under the guise of sending relief aid to Rwanda ... that not even that guy can believe what the crap the GOP is shoveling about the debt ceiling.

Well if you can come up with a better measurement than dollars for God's grace I'd sure like to know.

Cruz is the ultimate troll. You have to be further right than the old moderates like Limbaugh, Palin and Bachman

Cruz is going for the gold. Blow up the world economy and blame Obama. Nothing less will satisfy his constituents and he aims to please

I think the critical piece of what is said was "...and the Republicans just can't get tarred with that."  It's not that it would be bad, per se, just that it would be bad for the party that advances his social vision.

At this point, I'm at peace with a default.  The USA will take a hit financially.  The world markets will also be affected.  People will be left behind.

But ...

After all the financial carnage that will occur (2008 style), the GOP will be gutted.  An acceptable trade-off would be the USA loses 1/2 its value and the USA would then become free of all Republicans.  Perhaps the welfare red states would secede (please, please, please) and the rest of the real USA would be allowed to finally prosper without the conservative baggage keeping us back.  The real USA would have a chance to become a world power again.

Do it.

Please.
