At that moment, the heads of several Mexican cartels called off hits on Mexican squad players.

MEXICO, YOU'RE WELCOME.

2013-10-15 11:23:18 PM
US just ran the fark off the field ASAP.

2013-10-15 11:24:04 PM
4 years ago we sent Honduras to the World Cup with a goal to snatch a draw in the final seconds of stoppage time of the last game, long after we had already qualified ourselves.  This time it's Mexico we're saving at the last moment.

2013-10-15 11:24:44 PM
wait. USA scored AGAIN?!

damn, it feels like this was meant to be the 4th Annual Ian Darke Loses his Shiat in Added Time Game.

2013-10-15 11:24:57 PM
Dear Mexico:

You owe us a few now.

Sincerely, the United States of America

PS- could you send a few drug cartels to help get our team out of Panama?

Never has a Mexico loss felt so lousy, and a US win so lousy. What the hell!

2013-10-15 11:25:10 PM
Oh wow.

Panama is going to set off firecrackers outside the hotel room next time the US heads down there. Maybe inside the hotel room too.

YOU HAD ONE JOB

2013-10-15 11:25:21 PM
Wow, somebody call in some extra staff for the suicide hotline in Panama.  And the Mexican players live another day.

Trocadero: Never has a Mexico loss felt so lousy, and a US win so lousy. What the hell!

Like I said before...I have never felt so conflicted.

Ah well...with the way Mexico has played, chances are they won't go to far.

Maybe the Kiwis can beat Mexico in the playoff? Any chance of that?

CONCACAF playoff team: Mexico

2 wins and 7 goals in 10 matches, and Mexico's still got a good shot at a World Cup spot.

I'm just glad the US didn't draw.  If we won, Mexico made it, but at least we won with our B+/A- squad.  If we lost then Mexico was out and I was still happy.  A draw means the US doesn't win and Mexico advances.  We got the win off of some great goals and service by the wide players and even though Mexico is still alive, they have to play NZ just to get there.

If anyone has twitter, read @ussoccer because they are trolling Mexico right now and it is hilarious.

2013-10-16 12:37:23 AM
Just read the US Soccer twitter feed. It's so full of awesome. And my poor Spanish skills tell me that most Mexicans aren't thrilled that they needed our help.

In unrelated news, the New Zealand FA just rang up the All Blacks and asked if they might be interested in a working holiday as security guards in beautiful sunny México...

My fiancee is Mexican, but she hates the Mexican team b/c she hates the fans (used to live next to the stadium in Monterrey).  I dig the team, but the fans can make SEC fans look like gentlemen.

LucklessWonder: Norfolking Chance: LucklessWonder: EqualOpportunityEnslaver: The Brits just qualified.

The Scottish and Welsh might disagree with that classification, chief.

Don't forget Northern Ireland also crashed and burned as well.

Eng-Ger-Lund Eng-Ger-Lund  Eng-Ger-Lund  etc...

But Northern Ireland isn't part of "Britain," it's a part of the United Kingdom and the person I responded to said "brits"

/Geography pedantry is best pedantry

Northern Ireland is part of the British Isle so it depends on whether the "Brits" used is referring to the political entity, the largest island or the island group. So even someone from the Republic of Ireland can be referred to as a Brit (as in someone from the British Isles)

Plus if you want real pedantry then GB was correct to refer to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland until the last couple of decades, hence why the UK olympic team is under the Great Britain name and not the United Kingdom.

Almost as much fun to listen to as the various calls for the Bahrain/Saudi Arabia playoff in 2009.
Impartial commentators: What! What a finale, what a finish! [...] This football is the most magnificant sport! [...] And Bahrain were down and out and dead and buried and now they're back in and playing New Zealand!
Partial commentators: Goooooool. Allah, allah, allah! Baba, Bahrain! al-Bahrain! al-Bahrain!"

The video looks to have been pulled, but someone put together a rough translation:

"GOOOOAAAAAAL The US of A PUTS us in the playoffs!!!!!" USA!
"It is because of the USA that we are being placed in the playoff ...BECAUSE OF THEM , NOT DUE TO YOU..NOT ANY OF YOU in the green shirts ....IT WAS THEM!!.NOT YOU!..THEY DID IT!!!!!NOT YOU! remember this forever..... KEEP THIS CLEARLY IN MIND FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES! You do NOTHING for the shirt, you do NOT put the effort, you have NOTplaced us in the playoffs , you HAVE NOT placed us in the WORLD CUP ..YOU WOULD NOT HAVE KEPT US ALIVE....IT WAS ESTADOS UNIDOS, NOT YOU.! .NOT YOU AND YOUR ARROGANCE/CONCEIT.....NOT YOU AND YOUR INFAMY....NOT YOU AND YOUR MORONS/PUNKS....
....
"IT IS A FAILURE.....and UNDESERVED -to go through to the playoff- WE HAD NO ARGUMENTS to earn the playoffs, THE USA, WITH SUBS , WITH MANY SUBS as the visiting team shows us once again what the USA is all about ....how to play the game with dignity, how to approach the sport..MExico is a horror, just terrible....A FAILURE....
......
THE USA HAS SURPASSED US ..They are better than Mexico in SOCCER ....THEY EVEN HAVE THE LUXURY OF PLAYING THEIR SUBS and KEEPING US LIVE.... I hope our coach wears the pants and resigns..He has failed as coach...."

And every Mexican media outlet was venting anger at the Mexican team for being in that position. Every single one of them.

The Mexican soccer association should be beyond embarrassed. Their team was a joke from start to finish this year. And when you get right down to it, that bicycle kick on Friday saved their ass. If that ball doesn't go in and the match ends in a draw, assuming Tuesday's results stayed the same; Panama would've still been in the playoff on goals scored.

But instead; they're thanking Uncle Sam, Orozco is on some newspaper covers and everyone is wondering if they really can beat the Kiwis in the playoff. How the once mighty Mexicans have fallen.

To think: before the Hex started, everyone was raving about how good Mexico had been in the Olympics and the U-17s.  How that crop of players would begin to blossom and show that Mexico had kicked it up a notch.

Now?  Many are impressed with the US' showing and how Mexico struggled...badly.

As a Mexican, I really hope New Zealand wins. The Mexican Soccer Association failed, the coach failed, the players failed, and I think that us, as a country, have better things to think about right now, than to think about the World Cup.

So, what am I supposed to do w/ my El Tri jersey? Wear it just to piss of my fiance (as noted above, she's Mexican and hates the Mexican team).?!!  Well, she does love all things Kiwi (Flight of the Conchords, NZ music, etc).  Ok, I'm rooting for the All-Whites (that's NZ's knickname, due to their uniform, as opposed to their rugby's, 'All-Blacks').

That's one, also note that Mexico has been playing well this year, although that might give you more 'sleep on the couch' chances, so maybe not :p.

If NZ's team does a hakka before the game, right infront of El Tri, that would be epic XD.

Sadly, the Kiwi soccer team doesn't generally do hakas - something about it looking ridiculous when a bunch of skinny whitefellas try it. (Rugby being the national sport, NZ have a different definition of "skinny" to the rest of us.)

The haka works well with big, burly rugby players. I don't think it would work as well with smaller soccer players. Maybe they could recruit the rugby team to do it in support of their fellow countrymen though.
