Yellow card: MEX- Chicharito Hernandez. Will miss the 1st playoff leg if MEX holds on.

Rwa2play: MNMarkPW: Rwa2play: kevinatilusa: Right now I believe Switzerland's actually slated to rise above the Netherlands in the rankings.  That Dutch draw against Estonia may cost them.

MNMarkPW: Switzerland are seeded. Netherlands aren't.

So wait, the top 8 would be, what, Spain, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Switzerland...and who else?

Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Belgium, and Uruguay if they beat Jordan in the play-off. Netherlands get the last seed if Jordan pull the shocker.

Ugh, the potential for Italy AND Holland swimming around Pot #3 for a potential group of death is...disturbing.

No kidding. I'm pulling hard for Iceland and Ethiopia to win their playoff ties and add some easier sides to the competition (And Jordan, obviously). Seeing Ukraine and Romania make it over Portugal or Croatia or Sweden would also be nice, else that UEFA pot will be terrifying.

desertgeek: Gosling: desertgeek: African qualifiers: 5 spots all to be decided between Nov 16-19 in the playoff 2nd legs (which is frankly just plain evil)

Africa historically seems to like making their qualifying format look as close to a straight-up bracket as they reasonably can. It makes it easy to shuffle things around in the wake of the six or seven countries that have to withdraw every time out.

Because of eligibility issues? Yeah, you're right. But it's still crappy.

*cough* Cape Verde :(

The Mexican commentators are now clearly saying, in English, 'God Bless America', because they know they now need the US to equalize to get back into 4th. There is also praising of Obama.

I think they were saying that because they saw that US had just scored to equalize.  It was pretty hilarious.

They equalized at the same time Costa Rica scored.

Spanish soccer announcers are just way more fun than US announcers. US announcers are just too damn serious all the time.

Seriously, should we throw this? I mean, Guzan is number two no matter what happens tonight.

Considering they were damn near simulgoals, it's only fitting.

Naw...it would be great to go through the next few months with Mexico knowing they're only in the World Cup thanks to American help.

I don't think you appreciate the power of selective memory. However, we WILL get blamed if we lose this game.

It's not like Mexico's an actual threat away from home anyway. Let 'em through if it makes them happy.

I don't know whether elimination today, or a failure to beat New Zealand would be funnier.

Failing to beat the Kiwis would be infinitely funnier.

How much rioting will there be in Mexico if they fail to comeback?

I am proud to say my namesake scored for Panama. How much money will Televisa lose if Mexico's out?

How much will Univision and ESPN lose if Mexico is out? It's probably almost as bad.

If I'm the US team, I'm hoping things stay as is or Mexico scores. If the US scores, they won't be able to leave Panama.

Soooooo much timewasting going on by the Central Americans. They don't want these results to change one bit.
