I would love to see a fresh start X-Files movie. where the whole mythology thing is forgotten.  Just Mulder and Scully hooking up to solve a case.  And bring back the Lone Gunmen

I figured he just wants to be f*cking and punching.

David and Gillian could use a few extra bucks?  Great, I'll bite.  More X-Files is better than less X-Files (although I find Doggett-centered stuff rather trying).

/didn't think the last movie was all that bad, although the show's best episodes are way better than either movie.

How are they going to do another movie?  Didn't Walter manage to reset the timeline?

I expect to see naughty Gillian Anderson pictures in this thread.
Please do not disappoint me.

Also her meat wallet.

Aside from the Lone Gunmen that was basically the last movie, and it was an abomination.

Where they failed was not bringing in the kings of the X-Files standalones, Darin Morgan and Vince Gilligan. Pair those two on script and you'd be golden.

Who is this Gillian Anderson person and is she going to play a stripper in the next "X" Files movie?

Okay, gush, I'd love to see a new movie with them.

I still find X-files to be one of the few shows I can rerun without being bored out of my skull or finding the thing terribly dated.

I do wish the two mythos each had better resolutions. I think X Files was one of the first to do long arcs but it wasn't the first to do long arcs well. And so J. J. Abrams and Lindelof took the wrong lessons from the X-Files about needing to plot the thing while Vince Gilligan learned well.

The reddit AMA over the weekend was a real joy.

I know remakes/reboots are contentious issue, but I think I would be much more interested in a reboot of X-Files than a third movie. I thought the series was a bit of a mess a season or two before Duchovny left the show and the last movie was completely unremarkable.

2013-10-14 08:43:19 PM
I think it's time to kickstart the next next mythology.

And I loved all those characters, even William B. Davis' CSM. Skinner, awesome! AD Kersh... all of them. And those bastard gunmen. My first recorded TV binges...

I'd love to make an animated Lone Gunman series that takes place in the 80s immediately after the episode where Mulder first meets them.

She is at least aging gracefully... so there's that.  But she does other stuff quite well, and with residuals etc. probably doesn't need to work, so I don't see a need for a return to the X-files.  It's been and done.

/also loved the Lone Gunmen, I mean, who doesn't?

I'm not sure of the legalities of doing it as a web comic, but I bet you'd get a lot of readers.  Just... no tentacles, ok?

They already made a new X Files.

It was called Fringe.

Can anyone explain wtf happened to the X-files? Great mystery procedural with creepy, supernatural, alien, and horror overtones. Then it just went to shiat. Why? I don't remember, just that they introduced the new character, wrote out David, and it sucked balls.

I agree with this entirely, except that I found *any* Doggett unwatchable. My motto has always been "No Mulder, no me."

Kinda proved who actually made the show work - David.

I tried to remain loyal, I really did. I watched the first couple episodes of season 8, but when Scully put Mulder's name plate in the drawer and made no effort to look for him - unlike the way Mulder obsessed over her when she was missing - I got angry and stopped watching. I still haven't seen seasons 8 - 9.

I always felt it was dumb to try replace Mulder and Scully.  I like the Doggett and Reyes characters, but always felt that should have been a spin-off series, like X-Files: SUV.

Ha ha. No, they are DVD's; as old as I am, everything on a shiny metallic looking disc looks like a CD to me, just like some even older people call all refrigerators "Frigidaires".

Jeez buddy, that's too much snark for 5 am.

Well, it was the original believer/skeptic dynamic between two believable characters that "made it work".  Plus the entertaining mysteries themselves.  It just should have been intentionally limited to 3 or 4 seasons, instead of descending into random shark-jumping weirdness.

When Cancerman started making weekly appearances, I was pretty sure it was done. You can't be a mysterious arch nemesis if you're in every damn show!

Gillian Anderson just did the lead role in The Fall, a British crime drama series.  The first season came out this spring, it's only 5 episodes, and it's good.  Renewed for a second season.

All right then, if that's what it takes, I'm changing my name to "Another X Files Movie."
