"rocker"?

Insufferable douche attempts to latch on to source of attention. News at 11.

Wow Sufjan Stevens = Rocker?

2013-10-14 01:55:50 PM
I suspect he was trying to make ironic fun of Sinead's concern troll of a letter, but uh, it doesn't quite work.  Sufjan's music is pretty good, but he's a folk wonk, not even remotely a rocker.

If you have never heard his album Illinois, you should drop everything and go get it right now.

Sufjan.  Sufjan.  Sufjan.  Nope, I don't care if he perfects cold fusion and shiats gold, I'll never get beyond that name.  It's not fair if that's his given name, I know, but I can't help it.  If a mad scientist wanted to create the perfect douche, he would give his creation the name, "Sufjan."  It's just irritating.  I curses it and hates it forever.

This is true.  Although it's a Northern Michigan indie subculture.

But I still love Sufjan.

Northern Michigan Hippies.  They're generally good people, but you learn to ignore the silliness.  Because guitar on the lakeshore is just that damn good.

But that said, it's a legit Arabic name.  Although I've only met one other in my life.

He was great until he lost his mind after Illinois came out. Age of Adz was the most insufferable, piece of shiat album not done by Animal Collective.

Maybe it's just you?

"The Age of Adz debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, with 36,000 copies sold, giving Stevens his career's best first week sales to date. It was his highest charting album to date, peaking in the top ten on the Billboard 200."

It's a traditional Slavic name and being a kid from Michigan descended from Swedish immigrants, as many people in the midwest, he eventually got a weird sounding but traditional family name.

Hell, whenever I go to Germany I see my name on coffee cups and key chains in gift shops while here I just get to hear guys asking if I may have been a Russian whore at any point in my life.

I have to be in the right mood.  And sometimes Come On Feel The is too cheerful.  Decatur is just about right.

But Casimir is nothing compared to Flint.  Nothing.

Swedes aren't Slavs, "Sufjan" is an Arabic name meaning "comes with a sword", and it was apparently given to him at some interfaith religious commune thing. Just sayin'.

It's an Armenian name, apparently, of an early Islamic figure. So you're both right kinda.

I googled.

As for weird names from the midwest, my Mom got a name that works basically the same in Polish as English but her older brothers and sisters didn't, although they've gone by their American nicknames since elementary school.  It's pretty fun helping my uncle with his small business when I get telemarketing calls for Władysław, considering even his credit cards and bank accounts have his American nickname.

I always thought it was European because I knew at least 2 Sufjans from (one from Germany and another from Minnisota who was blonde haired and blue eyed). Then there's the whole spelling and pronunciation of the name so I just made assumptions that it was another European name.

I love that song so goddamn much.  It's just gorgeous, but yeah, can't listen to it too often.

I pretty much lose my shiat every time I hear it by the time it gets to "And the nurse runs in with her head held low..."

just going to pipe in and say my praise for "Illinoise" album, one of the very best albums of the 00's, hell, even the last 20 years.

There's a few tracks on "age of adz" that I like, "futile devices", "I walked" and "now that i'm older".

the title track and a few others are just too mechanical sounding and abrasive for my tastes.

"Impossible soul" needed a lot of trimming. Yes, I sat thru it all. A most of it was worthless, with only some beautiful or cool parts.
Yet a lot of the youtube commentators are cumming all over themselves saying it's the greatest 20 minute song ever........ I can think of at least 3 other ones that are far greater.

Anybody listened to "Michigan" ?

his few live clips on youtube, "john wayne gacy" (harmonium), "predatory wasp" (complete with story), are amazing.

And yet his use of 'i.e.' is questionable at best.  'e.g.', (exempli gratia...such as) would make more sense to use as he was giving an example of how to use 'laying' appropriately.
