AliceBToklasLives: "Chatroom" sting? Is it still 1996 and I dreamed the last 18 years?/serious question: people still use chatrooms?
miss diminutive: Do they train these officers to chat like underage teenage girls?
vudukungfu: miss diminutive: Do they train these officers to chat like underage teenage girls?OMFG!!11 Like, I mean, like how would they know, like, you know, like how they talk.jk.
dv-ous: miss diminutive: Do they train these officers to chat like underage teenage girls?Yes.I used to work for my university's continuing education / adult education program. This was back in the '90s, (Yes, I'm old) when smaller departments didn't have Uncle Sugar (DHS) throwing money at them, and high speed internet didn't go most places yet.We had two computer labs, (Pentium 90s, baby!) which would be filled most evenings with police officers - either getting training on how to do this, or doing actual stings. I saw some of the course materials they left behind, and it included bits on communicating like a teenager.
Digitalstrange: Was I supposed to feel sorry for this guy? No matter how they tried to warm and fuzzy him up and how he was hedging his bets he was talking about banging a 14 year old. Maybe it's just that I have a teen daughter myself but I'm OK with that sting.I'm sure there are times when the cops go too far (like the other poster mentioned about the guy too obese to leave the house, obviously he was just indulging in fantasy he could never follow through with) but this wasn't it. Yeah. hardly the most dangerous predator out there but a predator none the less
kendelrio: 1. There are no women on the internet
Random Anonymous Blackmail: miss diminutiveDo they train these officers to chat like underage teenage girls?I bet a few of these cops are living out a fetish they have.
Katolu: There will probably come a time when a cop ends up chatting with another cop. Wonder how that arrest will go.
sammyk: FTA:Deconfliction has grown in importance over the last few years; so many agencies now run stings that the chances of a suspect talking to several different police agencies at once are non-trivial.And these dumbfarks still walk into the traps.
Ker_Thwap: Don't feel sorry for the guy at all. Once "she" mentioned a 14 year old, the conversation ends. It's kind of sad that this article was greenlighted and used as an aid to teach pedophiles what specific language and actions they should take to avoid prosecution.
groppet: What if one day a 13 year old is posing as a 40 year old and goes to a police sting. What happens then?
jst3p: Katolu: There will probably come a time when a cop ends up chatting with another cop. Wonder how that arrest will go.Two weeks of paid leave.
