It a Truckie like a truck driver that likes Star Trek?

It's nice to see a video of someone who figured out exactly the right thing to do in the 1-2 seconds that he had to think about it.  While some of the tapes of Darwin Award winners (awarded either now or off in the future) are funnier than hell, it does wound one's soul to think that there are people that stupid out there.  It's good to see an occasional one from the exact opposite end of the spectrum.

well done Mr. Truck Driver.

Good for the driver. I would never have had that insight.

Kudos. I would have slowed down to get a better view of the wreck.

That's the kind of thing they teach you at Dootson.

Had he not been blocking his line of site by getting in front of him, it wouldn't have mattered.

If he didn't try to pass the truck on the wrong side of the road it wouldn't have mattered.

Maybe it's a Truckie : Trucker :: Trekker Trekkie sort of thing?

He didn't get in front of him. Watch the video again. The guy was passing him on the wrong side and was causing his own view to be obscured, but the truck driver did him a favor.

This.

Maybe the truck driver was paying too much attention to the action ahead to realize he was leaving his lane and had no intention to 'save' the other vehicle from getting into an accident.

Jack would like a word with that driver.

He seems like a nice guy (if a little weird) until you find out more about him:

So where the cop car to alert drivers and close off the lane?  A wrecker was on scene, meaning the accident wasn't a fresh incident.

Don't pass on the right.
Don't pass on the right.
Don't pass on the right.

How many Russian car crash videos do you need to watch before this basic safety rule sinks into your thick skull?

That was one of the best, most thoughtful driving maneuvers I've ever seen.

There was some sort of cop car driving the wrong way towards the end of the video, to get to the accident.

Anyways, the truck driver did the wrong thing. The person taping could have seen the truck infringing on their lane, and accelerated to get in front of the truck to avoid being crushed against the divider.

Why the crap would you accelerate when a vehicle 8x bigger than yours is in front of you and starts to impede your path?  Beside, did you notice the people standing/walking around the wreck?  I would say the truck driver did exactly the right thing.  (a) The camera car slowed down and did not mow down any people or make the previous crash worse. (b) Even if that had failed, the trucker could have pinned the car into the divider, thereby saving the people, and the driver is more protected in the car.

Intentionally causing a second wreck is not an oppropriate response to seeing a wreck in front of you. As the slower, bigger vehicle the truck should not have been in the left lane in the first place. As noted upthread, the truck's lane position was preventing everyone behind him from seeing what was ahead.

"Should/should not" has nothing to do with it in this case.  The truck is there.  Situational awareness of the truck driver is pretty awesome in my opinion.

I don't know the laws of wherever this happened, but even in the US, commercial left lane traffic laws (on roads of 3+ lanes) are decided state-by-state.  Annoying - yes, illegal - no.  Even at that, a lot of times it is by weight - generally anything over 10,000lbs.

Granted option (b) above is stupid and unlikely, but if I was walking on the interstate after my SUV rolled over I wouldn't want to be taken out by some jackhole going 80 to get around a truck.
