The guy with the TV on his head is Prince Robot IV from the comic Saga. I love the detail that he's holding the crappy romance novel that started the relationship between the comic's protagonists.

San Diego in August.

Translating illustrated costumes to reality is usually quite a challenge, on account of having to re-create things like GIANT SPIKES.

What used to get my goat were the people who showed up the DAY BEFORE in costume just to get their passes! THEN they would wear the costume all day the next day, and the next AND then the next! All the while I'm thinking, "Did they wash that?" Of course not! They are wearing the same heavy costume in the middle of July for four days straight!

Myself, I only wore my costumes on Saturday, the biggest day of the cons. Or I would bring a few costumes with me.

/in most programs that you get at cons it reminds people to take a bath. Should also remind people to wash their costumes every night...

I've not experienced smelly people nearly to the degree I've experienced smelly costumes.  In my experience the unwashed nerd stereotype is hugely overblown(groups of people in a closed room smell, get over it).  But good lawd do some costumes stink.  You gotta find a way to wash that stuff, guys.  Febreeze, Pine-sol wipes, something.

I've actually known one or two people who intentionally don't wash their costumes when being funky adds to the characteristics of the costume(e.g. Star Wars sand people).

Yeah. When I did SDCC, I planned all 4 days with different costumes. On sunday I took a picture with a guy who I swear slept in his all week.

A lot of the 'unkown' were video game or anime characters. I picked up most of them, they were from major games and anime (The first, blue girl, was from Tiger and Bunny, a damn good anime).

Since this is a comic thread, can anyone suggest simple-ish costumes for plus size dudes? I'm like 250 and 5-10 (ya, thanks, I'm aware), which makes most costumes outside the realm of 'safe for lunch'.

And I refuse to go as Jabba the Hutt.

Also had a girl ask me about costume ideas, she's, uh, stout (not as bad as me, just wide-boned) and I doubt she wants slutty.

weird, I click on one of the thumbnails and it takes me to a slideshow.  Now, I could always hit back, then select another one, then back and so on... but that's not the point, at least it wasn't for me.  My point was the quality of the content, not the annoyance of the slideshow itself.

Volstagg of the Warriors Three (Thor/Asgardian Character), Fat Cobra (Iron Fist Character) if you're brave enough to pull off the sumo wrestler look.  Fat Cobra is a badass.
