I don't think she eats meat. Just a guess.

Do women age differently in the UK or something?  Because every time there's one of these types of stories, where some woman talks about how she's often mistaken for someone ten years younger, they always look to me like their actual age.  This girl looks like she's in her mid-to-late twenties, not sixteen.

2013-10-14 01:02:13 AM
She looks over 30 to me.

So a chick that looks 35 but who's actually 29 can dispense health advice? And make a living at it? Score.
Time to evangelize my "smoke for breakfast, can of Red Bull for lunch, and two Western Bacon Cheeseburgers for dinner" diet.

I'm often told I look very young for my age (40), yet a huge part of my diet is Jack Daniels and Coors Light.  And I bet that's a lot more fun than eating celery.

2013-10-14 06:36:44 AM
Thanks but I think I'd rather die than be stuck on that diet for eternity.

Can I eat it raw through a flavor straw?

Well, eating cooked foods is not exactly natural. It just tastes better.

That woman does not look 35. I bet she's tiny and looks 25, but it's because she's tiny. Her eyes and smile tell me she is no more than 5' 5".  You know what I'd do...

My doctor was pushing some diet.  He asked me how old I thought he looked.  I said 63, he was 64.  He didn't look exceptionally healthy either and he was about 20 pounds over weight.  I should have kicked him in the nuts.

Actually, for humans it is. We've been cooking our food for over half a million years. It's why we have such small teeth and jaws, such short intestines (for an omnivore of our size) and such huge brains. Cooled food provides 20% more nutrients than raw food and takes a lot less energy to digest. Ergo: we can take the body mass we used to devote to mastication and digestion and use it for brains.

Ayep. We've evolved to eat cooked food, and on the plus side, cooking, as he mentioned, increases nutrient and calorie uptake.  There's nothing intrinsically wrong with the 'raw' diet, but if it precludes meat, she's going to have a similar problem to many vegetarians in obtaining certain key vitamins. Especially if she doesn't eat beans (have to cook them) and tofu (fermented, and usually cooked).

You just have to be prepared to be eating constantly and always feeling kind of hungry. I guess that is kind of what I felt like as a teenager, but I have little interest in revisiting that phase of my life.

Apparently in the UK you must get crow's feet when you're 18. And yes, she looks exactly her age.

low fat lacto-vegetarian. Thanks to the wonderful way my body can't cope with a lot of the fats/oils people take for granted, plus an egg allergy, the fact I've spent my life eating as little meat as possible has served me well. I could never get the hang of enjoying meat, plus, with all the health scares about meat produce, I wouldn't really miss anything I wasn't eating.
Fast food of any description is OFF. I am proudly bragging that it's been 3 years since I last had a cold. Up to that point, I'd allow myself a once a week portion of either chicken or fish.
My eyesight is perfect - in fact my distance viewing is better than 20/20 and while at some point in the future I may need to wear glasses for reading things, but, it's not urgent.
In fact, I'm the only member of the family that doesn't wear glasses...
the rest of the family are meat eaters.
Oh and yes, I do look younger than my age. I'm almost in my mid 40's and I can still get away with looking how I did in my 20's (including that bit where I used to have to produce ID before getting served with booze & cigs - both of which I've give up.)
Best compliment was 'But you're too young to have a teenage daughter!'

We have less control over what will kill us, and when, than we'd like.

I'm sure that's especially disappointing for all the control freaks.

Remember visiting old relatives and sitting on their plastic-wrapped furniture?  Remember how odd and uncomfortable it felt and when you asked about it they responded they were protecting it for down the road?  Remember how you thought it was silly they'd have all this stuff in ridiculous plastic wrap but never really get to use it because they were so afraid of themselves damaging it in some way?

Yah, same thing with your bodies.  Have fun and be reasonable, you only live life once.

I'm not taking advise on eternal youth from a 29 year old. Shown me someone who's 175, bicycles 25 miles a day, bangs whores all night, and only eats dog assholes, then MAYBE I'll listen to them and change my diet. Until then, I'll stick with what got me this far.

2013-10-14 08:24:47 AM
Well, a "raw food" diet is going to consist mainly of fruits, vegetables, and nuts, and most folks really ought to eat more of those.  That said, one of the main reasons we cook food is to destroy plant toxins so that our digestive systems don't have to.  So this may seem healthy, but your guts will hate you for it.

Also, the need for reading glasses in one's 40s has nothing to do with diet and exercise. If a person's distance vision is "better than 20/20" then due to the natural structural changes in the crystalline lens, near vision will necessarily be affected. I hear jokers every day brag about how they don't need reading glasses, and it turns out they either don't read, turn the mag up on their monitors, or hold everything 2 feet away.

www.scielo.br

Lots of vain people think they "don't need" reading glasses because they don't want to admit they've hit their 40s/50s.

I think we've been hit by a Smug Health Troll. "I'm as healthy as I was when I was 18, in fact, my 5k time is even FASTER than then." "How come we never see you run?"
