How many people actually give a shiat about baseball?  I did when I was a kid, but basically I don't know anyone who follows it anymore.

I don't care about baseball.  You wanna know how much I don't care about baseball?  I just clicked on a baseball playoff thread so I could tell a bunch of baseball fans that I don't care about their game.

So, uh, please note this for later reference baseball fans.

Once again, the Tigers will peak too early and cream Boston like Boston cream pie. Will the Tigers learn from 2012? Will they remain hungry as a Tiger for the win and work out like they mean to beat the Cardinals? Will they get the spirit of 1968 where they came back from game 1 where Bob Gibson struck out 17 Tigers and won 1968? Or will they throw it away like 2006? 2013 is an epic 2 out of 3 faceoff of 1968-2006-2013, a modern rivalry matching the older Yankee-Giants and Yankee-Dodger classics of the 40s 50s early 60s.

Lemme tell ya about growing up in Detroit in the early 1960s. There was no such thing as football soccer basketball. There was only baseball and the Detroit Tigers. I never heard about football, not a word of it until I was nine and a new kid on the block brought his football from wherever he moved from and taught us the rules. The only force more powerful than Tigermania was Beatlemania when it was more important to collect Beatles cards than baseball cards. But that was February March April of 1964. When baseball came back in season, so did baseball cards.

Yes that's the voice of the kid speaking. Yes as an adult I don't care about baseball unless the home team is in the world series. This time it is for the second year in a row.

Rule 9, Section 2, Article 4: There is no distinction between a player touching a ball or being touched by it, but a player is not considered to have touched the ball if he is blocked into it by an opponent, provided he is in a passive position and not blocking. A player who is engaged with and blocking his opponent when he contacts the ball is deemed to have touched the ball.

Now whether the Dallas guy was passive or blocking back... eh.  Whatever.

It might be hockeytown now. I was talking about the 1960s up to the Tigers winning it all in 1968. I went to junior high school and high school with Gordy Howe's sons, though even that didnt make hockey exciting.. That was after we moved to the suburbs. I left Detroit in 1983 for a national league city (SF Giants) so I never had to drop the Tigers, except for last year. My problem here in SF is that I actually LIKE the Dodgers.

Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

FOX had a graphic.  First time a team had a no-hitter through 5 in three straight postseason games (including ALDS Game 5).

Yeah it makes more sense that it's a Post-season record and not all time.  I'm listening to Tigers Broadcast (not a Tigers fan but I'm rooting for them because I don't like Sox and like listening to the local radio broadcasts), watching Fox and following the thread on FARK (and keeping an eye out on Dallas/Washington game).  Not surprised if I don't get all the details of records.  Sundays are awesome.

buckeyebrain: Klippoklondike: 45cal: Monday should be interesting listening to buster olney tap dance his way into liking the tigers.

I want to hear Skip Bayless talk about how the Tigers pitching isn't really that good

I have a friend that has even BSPN's trolls beat by a mile... He's convinced the Tigers are all scuffing the ball.

Nothing beats a guy that was on here a couple of years ago who wanted Kenny Rogers charged with murder because the tigers beat the yankees in the alds and then one of their players died in a plane crash like two days later.

13 Boston strikeouts now. 19 possible. What's the playoffs record? Bob Gibson's 17 strikeouts game one of the 1968 World Series is still the WS record.

This occurred to me the other day.  We wont get a weekend home game this series.  And, if we move on, we wont get one in the World Series either.  We seem to like clinching things on the road anyways, I guess...

Dusty Baker's ghost is still haunting MLB and God damn that so much. It costed the Giants the world series when Baker took the winning pitcher out of game 6 in the 7th inning in 2002. They should immediately fire whoever took out Sherzer. Fire that a-hole now. He deprived Sherzer of his record and just lost the game and maybe the series. Fire the ass that took out Sherzer. This game fell apart for the Tigers SO quickly..

2013-10-13 11:43:59 PM
A single, followed by an error and a wild pitch. Nice.

2013-10-13 11:44:01 PM
Wild pitch to lose it?

Come on Salty

2013-10-13 11:44:23 PM
If they come out of this inning alive I'll be shocked.  It's like they're TRYING to lose.

NikkiPoooo: Kevin72: Dusty Baker's ghost is still haunting MLB and God damn that so much. I am disgusted.

Let's not a have a stroke, kay?

I will have a stroke about this. The Giants were sailing to win the 2002 series and the pitcher in his own words said he could have easily held out but Dusty Baker the most hated man in 2002 San Francisco took him out and the "relievers" lost imminently winnable game 6. There was no reason to take out Sherzer when he was doing so well and worse deprive him of tying the ALDS record which was imminently available. Now it's a humiliating loss. But I'm more bitter at Sherzer being denied his chance at history because "7 innings only precious snowflake". Fire the bum manager TONIGHT.

The sports media in Detroit are gonna be pissed.

Oh well.  See you guys tomorrow for Cards-Dodgers or Tuesday if you're only following the AL games.

Feel bad for you Tigers fans.  I'm a Phillies fan. I've had my share of heartaches over the years.

I guess it doesn't matter, even if he's out the run still scores.

The Sox are fortunate to win this one.  Lucky, almost.  Momentum changer?  I dunno, still early in the series.  But pulling Scherzer may haunt Leyland the rest of the series.

Geez.  That's quite a day for Boston sports fans.

It's an easy decision in retrospect, not so obvious as it happens. It can just as easily go the other way. Just look at Pedro, 2003.

4/4 have been 1-run games if I'm not mistaken...

Papi doesn't hit that homer, Detroit probably sweeps the series. Now I'd say there's a good chance Boston wins the next three games.

2013-10-13 11:50:37 PM
Okay, positives to take from the Tigers tonight.

Avila is starting to hit.  He looked awesome at the plate tonight.  2 for 3 with a walk and a HR.  Can't biatch about that.

Jackson is looking better at the plate.  Not good, mind you, but at least he's not striking out 3 times per game.

Our starting pitching is unreal.  The only one I'm nervous about is Fister, but having him start at home I can deal with.

Well, I hope the Cards bring in the game tomorrow.  Wain-o going and all, I hope it happens.  See you folks tomorrow.

I hope to god Benoit doesn't have a Valverde style mental meltdown over this.

I don't know Pedro 2003. I know Sherzer 2013 hot hot hot with 13 strikeouts in 7 innings. I am not bitter at losing the game, that happens. I am bitter at Sherzer being denied his chance at history. The pussification that 7 innings better take him out represents. Have we forgotten that a man at that level of professionalism becomes more competitive?

The way I see it is Scherzer just doesn't play into the 8th, ever. He doesn't get no hitters because he can't play that long. His staff knows him. Even if he's looking solid, and feeling good, in the post-season you just don't risk a completely unknown situation.

Not only do you run the chance of him just falling completely apart and blowing it anyway, but now he's pitched 9 innings of playoff ball, and he's totally not ready to play again if it goes back to Boston. If it was anyone but him I might feel differently about it, but the combination of the unknown and the fact that he is the most needed guy on the pitching staff have me agreeing with the decision, even though it didn't pan out.

The only history that matters in October is who wins and who loses. Anything else is just a line for the announcers to trot out between plays.

With no outs, it doesn't even matter.  Once the run crosses the plate the game is over.

broomballwilson: as a diehard Tigers fan, I'm glad the Red Sox offense is so pathetic. From what I'm seeing, I dont understand how they had the best record in the AL. Eat'em up, Tigers, eat 'em up!

picodenico: I wonder how many people were at the Pats and Sox game today, and left both early....

The four guys sitting in front of me at the Sox game did. what a bunch of d-bags, too. One  of them started arguing with me when I told him he was wrong about some Sox stat he was screaming about. He got in my face saying he had season tickets and went to every game this year and wanted to know how many I had gone to. A lot less than him so I knew nothing. Drunk logic, I guess. Anyhow other fans in the area told him to shut up, he insulted some guy's wife, flipped everyone off and yelled he was going to a bar to be with real fans. Shortly after, one of his buddies gets up to scream something at a tigers fan, his seat folded up, and he missed it when he tried to sit back down landing hard and spilling his beer. Everyone laughed and he flipped us off and they all left. An inning later the Sox rallied.
