The founding fathers would be spinning in their graves.

Spinning fabrics made of hemp, that is.

Damn hippies; do you see?! This is why we can't have nice things. This guy is taking jobs away from honest, hard working illegal immigrants.

This is a good thing.  If they make jeans or pantaloons out of that stuff, it'll last you for years!

My hemp pants are the most comfortable things I have ever worn.  I have a pair of jeans that is at least 10 years old that get used often.  Still in great shape, and soft as kittens.  So hard to find hemp pants that don't look hippy though.

Thats the problem. Sustainability and efficiency are enemies of capitalism.

and smell bad, and feel funny against your skin.

I kind of wished the feds trolled all the potheads by legalizing hemp without legalizing pot. "Wear all the hemp you want, it's not as amazingly wonderful as the Cypress Hill liner notes made it out to be is it?"

I bet most of those calls are Woody Harrelson using different voices. Buddy loves him some hemp. Been an advocate for decades.

1) Golfers
2) "Hemp" advocates

I'd generally count myself as a hemp advocate, and I've never smoked it in my life. Of course, I also don't find myself trying to convince random people on airplanes that it's a good thing either, so...

William Randolph Hearst. But yeah, creepily similar to Romney.

i really hope this catches on. baca county has taken it on the chin these last few years - first in the form of a prolonged drought that has caused many old farmers and ranchers to give up, which has lately been producing honest-to-god dust storms. the recession hit them pretty hard too. they've also missed out on the oil and gas boom, as they're one of the few spots in the state that just doesn't seem to have much of either.

there's been talk of springfield becoming a ghost town, although there'll probably always be enough semi truck traffic up 287 to justify a couple truck stops and a motel.

baca county, and the whole southeast corner of the state, is forgotten but beautiful. i wish i didn't feel so stupid for hoping the federal government will come to its senses and approve what could be a lifeline for a lot of family farmers in a neglected and forlorn place.

I thought we'd evolved past farming and were all just living on the internet now.
Maybe that's why I'm always hungry?

[citation needed]

And I thought federal money being spent on farmers (crop insurance and subsidized farming) was a waste.

/it's not.

farm subsidies almost never make it to small family operations. they prop up giant corporate agribusiness. monsanto and archer daniels midland and the massive corn consortiums. (consortia?)

Hemp and marijuana are the same species, Cannabis sativa, just cultivated differently

They say 1 acre of hemp is equivalent to 4 acres of trees.  Also, hemp seed is the most nutritious seed in the world.  But watch out for that hemp seed oil, you might piss dirty.  If that's not a concern, though, it comes highly recommended.
