This is why retina scans are better.

Harder and more expensive to do, but better.

That's why I used a nipple print to lock my phone. I leave fingerprints everywhere, but nipple prints very few places.

Really? I am so very sorry for you.

Isn't the real selling point of the fingerprint scanning that it serves about the same level of deterrence to a common thief or nosey person as a passcode, but doesn't require as much work or memorization?

Yes, obviously it can be bypassed. No shiat. But that's incredibly unlikely to happen, because most people don't have the time, money or know-how to bother with doing it.

I think it's a stupid gimmick, like just about everything Apple does, but I think that people harping on it for security reasons are being ridiculous.

This is security for the general population against the general population.

Having super sensitive info on your phone or having the resources to get around the fingerprint scanner puts you outside of that set.

I thought the biometrics data used by the iPhone went beyond the basic fingerprint itself, which is why nipples and frenuli work - would a cheap silicone kit like the ones in TFA not work in that case?
