Whole lot of traps in that slide show.

Those  were some pretty meh submissions over all. I would have liked to have seen a well done EDI from ME3 instead of the half assed job the one girl did.

F'ing slide shows.  I made it as far as 10, none were too impressive.  I'm pretty sure #8 was 2 Asian men dressed as girls.

how about some male cosplay?

[Googles "hot male cosplay"]

yeah OK good for a laff ... especially the guys sporting a Princess Leia slave outfit.

As someone about to leave the office to head over there, I'm getting a kick out of this....

Wait no, I need to get the hell out of here.  Why am I even at work on a Saturday?

Some were nice, some were meh, some were hookerswithpenis. Much like my pre-marriage life

So weird. Take average-looking girls, put them in costumes, and suddenly I start masturbating.

Gets me kicked out of a lot of places.
Can't remember the last Halloween when I wasn't arrested.

For its population size I would figure that NYC would have more attractive looking cos-players. Maybe San Diego draws more out of towners but they certainly have better looking ones there.

I have to say I'm impressed with the CW's Arrow's choice for Black Canary...

Caity Lotz

She can breakdance

She can do MMA

and she can heat up a camera lens.

Went to Dallas Comic-Con last weekend.  Plenty of good costumes there too.  Had I been drunk enough, I coulda seen myself going home with the chick dressed up as Gozer.

Someone answer this for me, if possible.  Are there really that many good looking female nerds out there or are these mostly attention whores and/or strippers looking to get noticed for a modeling gig?

A little from column A, a lot from column B.

During the heyday of video game conventions (late '90's - early 2000's), a lot of companies got flack for their "booth babes."  Companies would hire professional models to dress up as characters from their video games and hang around the booth.  Fans would ask these models questions about the game, and half of these chicks probably didn't even know the name of the character they were portraying, let alone the first thing about the game.  So, huge backlash.  (In fact, there's a rule at PAX that you can only have booth babes if they are actually fans of the game they're trying to market.)  Video games, anime, and comics have all become a lot more mainstream since those days, so anymore, it's not all that surprising to see actual attractive people that are genuine fans of whatever IP they're cosplaying.  It's been really cool to watch; seeing "normal" people that love the things that got me ostracized as a kid (I swear I was the only girl at my high school that had subscriptions to Nintendo Power and Tokyo Pop/Smile).

This is the question that has fueled a thousand basement neckbeard vs. basement internet feminist flamewars across the Interwebs for years now.

Best to just keep your distance, and assume the answer to both parts of your question is "yes" without worrying about relative proportions.

As I understand it, a comic-con is a thing where some promoters costume a bunch of models, then charge 50-year-old guys some money to photograph them.

You said it, they barely get to Con-hot level.

Or maybe they're just got real nerdy girls, instead of the typical paid promotion models.
