You can have Robin Ventura.

Will Ozzie's schtick play on the North Side?

Um, no.

Ventura's not the reason the White Sox sucked.

Cal Ripken Jr., in a tacit admission that they're squatting in someone else's market. Randy Knorr's probably the best man for the job.

Though as a ChicagoLand kid I was a White Sox fan, but my very first game was along the first base line at Wrigley Field watching #14 Ernie Banks, so the Cubs will always be puppy-love special.

Why are two of the four names on the list coming from the Padres? That's not where you want to be looking.

As a Card's fan, I was sad to see Cincy come to their senses and fire that turd bucket.  I can't wait to see what team is stupid enough to pay that guy to manage next year.

And if they pick AJ Hinch, they're basically saying "we don't give a shiat about winning" because he's the worst baseball manager I've ever seen.

/he might make a good GM one day, but keep him off the field.

About the only team that should even think about hiring him is a team with a veteran pitching staff. If you have young pitchers, Dusty will blow out their arms and fark them up forever (see: Prior, Mark, or Woods, Kerry)

Dusty also appears to run a steroid-friendly clubhouse, let's be honest. Considering his health problems on top of it, he really oughta call it a career at this point.

The thing about being a Cubs fan, is that I don't CARE if they win or lose. I dearly love this city, but winter lasts 60% of the year and then there's this brief window where Wrigley is gorgeous every day and it all seems like a dream. So, look, if it's summer and there's baseball, I'M WINNING.

/Technically I'm more of a "Wrigley Field in Summer" fan, and they're gonna manage to screw that up for me too

We will get right on that!

Ugh, Cards fan here but I loved the visits to Wrigley in the 80's-90's.

I'll admit that I was wrong when I wrote that the Cubs were going to get Girardi. I really thought they could pull it off, but didn't consider family issues into the equation.

/and Ozzie would be an interesting choice since he's a good manager
//but I'm not sure if he'd fit Theo and Jed's philosophy

Any idea who you guys are going to hire yet?  I've just been casually looking and haven't seen anything, and it doesn't seem like there are any established guys looking for jobs either on another team right now or sitting in an ESPN studio somewhere.

Can someone hire Matt Williams so the snakes can get a 3rd base coach who knows when and when not to send someone home?

There, in a nutshell, is why the Cubs haven't won a title since before WWI. OK, Steve Bartman too, but still, the owners know that they can fill their aging, horrible smelling ballpark no matter what the team does in the standings, so why bother spending money to assemble a really good team?

/Been to Wrigley Field once, was completely underwhelmed

I miss Zimmerman. At least he could throw a base decently when he was going to get tossed.

Anyone have a stat about the base-tossing of remaining candidates? Been thinking about following the Cubs again but without a good tosser it just isn't worth investing myself into baseball again.
