Sorry to hear she died.

Vixen, though, always struck me as a record-company-manufactured "hot chick band" that we were supposed to like just because they were hot chicks.  Packaged for MTV.

I'm sure goth necrophiles will find her much more attractive now.

Oh, man, that blows. They played my college in 1984 and the guy across the hall from me nailed her. Swear to god, I worked security for the concert, and the day after I opened my dorm room door to go to the bathroom, the door across the hall opened and he was escorting her out. She looked rode hard and put up wet.

While that might be true, I saw her (qv) play, and she could shred. The drummer sucked, and the lead singer was meh. But she could play.

Too young.

Also, the name and band don't ring a bell, though I admit I wasn't listening to metal back in the 80's.

While I was around and partying heavily, I still never heard of her or her band.  Timing would say she was around at the same time as Twisted Sister, Journey, and Quiet Riot, and yet I never heard of her or the band.  And she definitely was not as hot as Lena Horne.  Regardless, RIP Rockin' Lady!

I have no idea who this person is.

"...[Vixen's] videos were featured heavily on MTV."

I had MTV on 24/7 back then, I just watched their 2 'hit singles' from that time 'Cryin'" and "Edge of a Broken Heart". I have never seen either of those videos before.

I don't recognize this band as either a headliner or as a novelty act. I don't recognize any of the names or faces or schtick.

if it's ignorance, then I guess I'm ignorant of never even knowing this person or band ever existed.

Never liked Vixen's music (IIRC Richard Marx and few other industry guys wrote it) but I watched the videos just for Jan.

well, if you were listening to metal in the 80's you wouldn't have cared for Vixen (at least this band, using the name), to be fair

Never listened to them, they seemed contrived to me.  Truth said though, bands like Vixen opened the door for the grunge garbage that followed.  Can't really blame Kurt, he was filling a hole.

they were on headbanger's ball a bit, they were usually in the magazines during that time a lot (Rip, Metal Maniacs) and they pretty much were just a shiatty girl version of Cinderella\Poison.  If you were into hair metal at all you pretty much could not avoid them, kinda like Doro and Wendy O.

Vixen sucked and never really went anywhere as I recall.

He was married to the 2nd bass player Pia, I originally thought it was Jan he had married.

I owned their first CD, not ashamed to admit it.  I listen to a lot of different stuff and I actually like female fronted bands.  Halestorm, Lacuna Coil, In this Moment, and Straight Line Stitch are in my current rotation.

Not sure what meme you're referring to, but I actually didn't know him that well. The two guys on the other side of him (shared the wall) did, and one of them told me that she pulled a DLR: Saw him in the crowd, pointed him out to her security and they invited him backstage.

I think I saw them a couple times back in the 80s...they opened for acts we were there to see, so some lap-over was common. They weren't bad, just glam, but I remember meeting the lead singer because I plugged the "Hey, I'm from Montana too" line. SHE was smoking hot and damn fun to be around--most 'metal' chicks were back then.

Thanks for the link, subby...I feel old now.

Not bad, have not heard of them before.  Kittie, not Hole that is.  Liked it up until the solo, it came across a bit weak compared to the rest of her playing.  Will have to check out more of their stuff.

Just missed Butcher Babies up in Scottsdale last week, heard it was a good show in a small venue.

I was more of a Lita Ford fan back then, but Vixen was alright for a 80s (Glam) Hair-metal  band, and "Vixen" was in my pile of various Metal cassettes I kept in rotation.

I remember them being called the girl version of Bong Jovi and thinking: no way, these chicks are WAY better than Bong Jovi!

/So long Jan, sorry you had to go so early.

Yeah, they were to "metal" in the same way Kenya West is a "rock star".

More of a Poison, Bon Jovi type. (also not metal).

Not bad, not good.

They kind of did the soundtrack to the 1984 teen nudie romp movie "Hardbodies".

Yeah, the bass player Pia.

Bunch of years ago I was at a G3 show and had seats behind the soundboard.  She came out at the end of Malmsteen's set and hung out at the board with the soundguy and I think it was her kid until Satch started.  Very easy on the eyes, very pleasant and very polite to those of us who recognized her and tried not to have some goofy fan-boy moment.

Oh yeah, 'Hardbodies'.  I vaguely remember sneaking that once or twice on cable, when the parents weren't around.  Mostly just topless girls, but lots and lots of them.

That was HBO's M.O. in the 80s.  Really big hits?  They were on once a month.  Everything else? played daily until the tape wore out.

Maybe in the clubs, but they were on MTV 5-7 years after those bands hit big.  Mostly on Headbangers ball or whatever the 30 min metal show they played in the afternoons.
