You say that like it's a bad thing.

Cock brothers should have it for the eeffort to fully expose terrorism in the US.

ghare: secularsage: ..He was hawking a military intervention that was too much for even the Republicans...

Dude, that's nonsense. They opposed it because it's all they've got: hating Obama and not wanting to give him ANYTHING. If Obama came out against taking a hammer and smashing your own balls into a red paste, there wouldn't be be any Republican children for a generation.

I disagree, and I have no love for either party.

Many Republicans took the position, as did most of the American people according to public opinion polls, that there was no reason for the US to get involved. What was really interesting was that the Republican LEADERSHIP got behind this one eventually, but the party itself didn't. The same was true of the Democrats, but to a lesser degree. There has been a lot of talk over the last few months about how party lines blurred over this issue and both houses of Congress showed strife between the party line and the general mood of the Congressmen and Senators who were supposed to tow it.

Which is to say... A broken clock is right twice a day. For once, the normally hawkish Republicans were on the right side of the issue.

I'm still amused that people somehow think the statements Kerry made were just dumb luck

Brown people so no1curr

fusillade762: Wow, he managed all that more than a month before taking office? He's even more powerful than we thought!

I was referring to the second peace prize mentioned in that cockslobbering of an article

Obama: I'MA BOMB THE shiat OUT OF YOU IF YOU DON'T STOP KILLING PEOPLE WITH POISON INSTEAD OF GUNS AND BOMBS AND FIRE LIKE GOD INTENDED WHEN HE INVENTED 21st CENTURY ASYMMETRIC WARFARE

Kerry & Putin:  Hey bro what if they just handed over their chemical weapons to the UN?

Article: OBAMA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS BREAKTHROUGH

please... I voted for the man twice and i like his domestic policies but the idea that he's not a hardass who won't hesitate to bomb the shiat out of anyone that so much as moves in a way that would threaten his poll numbers is a farking joke. He's already ordered extra judicial killings of american citizens abroad and increased the power of the executive to basically murder whoever the fark they want with a goddamn missile firing remote control robot.  The idea that he is somehow fundamentally different in moral character than any other American president is a joke.

But yeah only people pissed off at the blah man disagree with him ever ever.

F*ck off.

Lionel Mandrake: I hope so.  Not because he deserves it, but it would piss off all the people I most like to see miserable.

I don't want to see anybody miserable...but, the hatred directed at the president is truly baffling to me.  It's completely out of proportion to anything he's actually done.

It's a kind of insanity.  Obama Derangement Syndrome is a real thing.

TalenLee: Barack Obama turns up promising to stop those wars and step down the militarism, and gets elected. That is, Barack Obama, just by getting elected, expressed the ability of a nation that had been in a state of non-stop war for a near-decade to stop, to stabilise, and maybe stop being such a gigantic asshole to the rest of the world

That is a view that can only be described as willfully ignorant of Barack Obama and what he stands for. And what he stands for is... nothing. And this was entirely apparent during the campaign. He offered up populist platitudes about what a lot of people wanted to hear. But the US political machinery being the broken system that it is, his primary and general election opponents were 2 people that no one really wanted, so he speaks to the youth about hope and change and they fall for it. But I'm terribly disappointed in the Nobel committee for being so gullible.

Given the history of the peace prize, I shouldn't be so surprised. I would be surprised if the committee were dumb enough to give another award to the guy who uses murder drones to execute "bad guys" without any sort of trial or oversight, after failing to close Gitmo, for sustaining the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, for illegally waging war in Libya, and for trying to start another war in Syria. Anyone who thinks this guy should be considered for a second peace prize needs to get their head examined. This clown belongs in jail with Bush and Cheney. Hell, the last US president who wasn't a crook was Carter, and he was just a joke.

Higgs received the Nobel 39 years after theorizing a missing particle. Only when he was proved correct was his work recognized. Obama spouts off vacuous and as yet undelivered election promises and nine months later received the NPP. Using the same criteria for the NP for physics, Higgs should have received his in 1965.

I don't know, I mean I guess he didn't. He hasn't objectively lived up to it. As a liberal, I should hate him, really.

But, I dunno. More and more I just feel that maybe we are being too hard on him for some reason. I mean, he's not such a bad guy, you know?

I think those guys in Stockholm just saw something in him.

Maybe I'm suffering from some kind of syndrome?

God, I hope not. Enough all ready.

2013-10-11 11:54:13 PM
My own hypothesis is that the committee actually planned to award the prize to Malala Yousafzai (who was widely considered the favourite), but had to find someone else tootsweet on Thursday on news the EU had given Malala the Sakharov Prize already.

I don't blame them, honestly. Kid gets two peace prizes in two days? Come on, that's just plain silly.

(Could be worse. The committee had Mahatma Gandhi die on them before they could award him the prize in 1948. In the end, the prize went unawarded on the grounds that no living person was suitable that year.)

2013-10-11 11:56:43 PM

If you read TFA, that's exactly what Obama said at the time (without explicitly dropping Bush's name)

If it's the one in which the president extra-judicially murdered two citizens without arrest or trial and everyone's sorta cool with it because arresting them would have been too hard..... yup.

Anyone who thinks that wouldn't have been (rightly) considered an impeachable offense by house Democrats under a Republican president is either being willfully ignorant or is plain clueless.

It's actually the world in which the guy that started an unprovoked war based on false evidence that was responsible for more than 100,000 dead and many more maimed is a free man.

And the one in which the current president has acted according to the admittedly shady laws that were passed by the aforementioned guy's pals in congress and that he gleefully signed.
