Sincere or not, you have to admire the way that kid hit all the right notes, which only goes to show that a college kid's sense of PR damage control is better than most politicians'.

Bullshiat apology is bullshait.  Notice he apologized for the "pain and embarassment" he put on his community instead of apologizing for the behavior itself.  I was an RA in college, and helping some of my residents deal with the college Greek rape culture (aka college Greek culture) leaves me with no sympathy.  Frats are not held to the standards that they should be.

Also, that was not an apology. That was a non-apology. That was a Rush Limbaugh "apology". That was "I'm sorry you were offended, I was only kidding."

Little asshole. I hope he flunks and ends up working in a McDonald's forever.

Riiiiight. There's no way that email was meant as satirical. That's a frat boy's best attempt at damage control. Probably dad told him what to say.

He really should get together with the coont punt sister. I think she would encourage her members to keep quiet about a little rape so the sorerity wouldn't look uncool.

wallywam1: T.rex: i do believe he was just joking.  Its not like frat members have to reach some quota of rapes per semester, and thusly have to disseminate policy on how to achieve said rapes.

Though, if your'e gonna try and be funny on shock value and crassness, at least have some wit and satire i there.   Wasn't amusing in the slightest, even on the level that it was intended to be.

Totally agree. It was a "joke" but just insensitive and immature.

It absolutely was a joke. Even though I believe the author was an idiotic misogynistic douchebag, I don't believe he's a rapist.
But, that's the thing - it's not just about him. What about that other guy in his frat? The sociopathic one who is wondering if he can pass among these bros or whether they'll realize he's different and dangerous? The one that wants to drag a passed out girl up to a bedroom and wonders if his frat bros will bust in and break his face, or whether they'll guard the door from her friends? That guy is going to read this "joke" email and know that he'll be safe from repercussions when he rapes someone.
So, that's the point - it's not that the author is a rapist, but that he makes it easier for his friends to commit rape. And that's why he, and they, should be outted.

FTFY. Also, we need to know the guy's last name too so that we can put him on the employment blacklist.

Totally agree. It was a "joke" but just insensitive and immature. Not clever or funny. They probably sit around and tell each other fart jokes and watermelon and fried chicken racist jokes then open up a case of beer and watch some "Ow, My Balls" type show.

As much as I hate the "bro frat boys" and their culture I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.  The email wasn't really all that bad aside from the "luring rapebait" which we can only speculate on the inside meaning of that.  Yes it's damage control but I think people get a little to hysterical when they smell chum in the water.

This.

His e-mail wasn't nearly as appalling as that "rape can be a good thing" editorial a few years where the author (don't remember if he was a frat boy) opined that rape wasn't all that bad because it allowed ugly or fat women to get laid. And that wasn't just some private e-mail that went viral. That was printed in the campus farking newspaper.

The article missed or intentionally decided to overlook what is probably the most important part of his apology, which was the explanation of why he used the ters, "rapebate".

From his apology --->  "One particular term originated from the nickname I received as a pledge, which was "4th Grade Rape Bait" due to my youthful looks and the connotation of what may happen to someone like me in prison. This became an internal fraternity joke and the term found its way into several communications, inappropriately and even nonchalantly. In retrospect, it was a nickname I should not have embraced but continuing to use the term was my fault. As a leader I should have put a stop to it in any reference."

If you place the email in context, one that was sent to his fraternity brothers, who were the source of his nickname, the term is not as bad as otherwise appears. All of the that people who were supposed to receive the original email understood the context.  It was only after it was leaked and people viewed it out-of-context that is seems harsh.

I compare this to the often posted "PITA Prison" headlines/comments which often are seen gracing the  this very website.  I don't think that anyone (hopefully) on this site endorses prison rape.  Instead I view PITA as being a running Fark joke.  One that may be misunderstood if viewed by people new to Fark or by people outside this rather large community.

In fact, if someone complained about such, we could expect that a Farker might even post this image, as the standard response:

farm1.staticflickr.com

I am willing this give this kid a pass on this one, ranking it the "inside joke"/ "joke taken out-of-context" department.  His other comments in the email simply prove that he belongs to a fraternity of boys that don't know how to interact with women and that he lacks satire skills.

Or even worse, he graduates and still ends up working at McDonald's forever, strapped with a humongous debt that he can never pay off.

The Sigma Nu (or whatever stupid random combo of Greek letters) guys on my floor seriously stuck those mini bats up each other's asses while pledging. And freely admitted it while drunk one day. Another frat had an actual circle jerk over a pizza as their initiation, as told me by a sorority sister who dated one for years.

I disagree. With the exception of a single fraternity, all the social frats were exactly this. The non-social frats (like the business one or whatever), were normal networking crap.

Sororities were filled with either vapid airheads, utter snobby biatches, or annoying overly cheerful girls set on permasqueal. And whores. I mean that in pretty much the literal sense. The only reason some folks didn't charge is because there was too much competition for free. Not that it's bad or anything.
