No means no, bro.

Sincere or not, you have to admire the way that kid hit all the right notes, which only goes to show that a college kid's sense of PR damage control is better than most politicians'.

I usually try to avoid generalizations and stereotypes, but literally every single frat boy I knew back in university was an unrepentant douchebag. Every. Single. One.

Indeed many of the great satirists worked under such violent pretenses.

It is said that Voltaire wrote Candide while raping a bevy of drunk 17 year-old coeds from Vassar, which is weird because not  only did Vassar not allow men to enroll at that time but they didn't allow ANYONE to enroll at that time.

2013-10-11 05:23:09 PM
Do you think Voltaire had to stand for such criticism?

NO!

STAND FOR SATIRE, DR. BROGLOSS!

He really should get together with the coont punt sister. I think she would encourage her members to keep quiet about a little rape so the sorerity wouldn't look uncool.

I disagree. With the exception of a single fraternity, all the social frats were exactly this. The non-social frats (like the business one or whatever), were normal networking crap.

Sororities were filled with either vapid airheads, utter snobby biatches, or annoying overly cheerful girls set on permasqueal. And whores. I mean that in pretty much the literal sense. The only reason some folks didn't charge is because there was too much competition for free. Not that it's bad or anything.

My college doesn't have fraternities, so I'm unfamiliar with their douchebaggery... Sort of. Because we were so close to the beach, and right below Arizona, there was Spring Break.

Also, since I studied Architecture, we only functioned in nighttime, but during the day...

Bullshiat apology is bullshait.  Notice he apologized for the "pain and embarassment" he put on his community instead of apologizing for the behavior itself.  I was an RA in college, and helping some of my residents deal with the college Greek rape culture (aka college Greek culture) leaves me with no sympathy.  Frats are not held to the standards that they should be.

Matthew ended his email, saying "I will conduct myself to more honorably reflect the ideals of Georgia Tech in the future."

How 'bout you conduct yourself to more honorably reflect the behavior expected of a decent human being in the future? Would that kill you? Is that too much to ask?

In fact, the only thing more embarrassing is some idiot spelling "embarrassment" with one "r."

The Sigma Nu (or whatever stupid random combo of Greek letters) guys on my floor seriously stuck those mini bats up each other's asses while pledging. And freely admitted it while drunk one day. Another frat had an actual circle jerk over a pizza as their initiation, as told me by a sorority sister who dated one for years.

Riiiiight. There's no way that email was meant as satirical. That's a frat boy's best attempt at damage control. Probably dad told him what to say.

I am writing in reference to a recent email that I sent to members of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity that has recently received extensive media attention. The content of this email was offensive and it should never have been written.

I am deeply sorry for the pain and embarrassment my actions and lack of judgement have caused the students at Georgia Tech and my Phi Kappa Tau brotherhood as well as those who otherwise came into contact with the email.

As much as I hate the "bro frat boys" and their culture I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.  The email wasn't really all that bad aside from the "luring rapebait" which we can only speculate on the inside meaning of that.  Yes it's damage control but I think people get a little to hysterical when they smell chum in the water.

This.

His e-mail wasn't nearly as appalling as that "rape can be a good thing" editorial a few years where the author (don't remember if he was a frat boy) opined that rape wasn't all that bad because it allowed ugly or fat women to get laid. And that wasn't just some private e-mail that went viral. That was printed in the campus farking newspaper.
