(Bleeding Cool)   If you want Rob Liefeld's autograph, it's free... unless you want him to sign one of those important books he did. Then, you're going to pay for the privilege of having him write "To E-Bay, with love, Rob Liefeld" on that book   (bleedingcool.com) divider line 73

Good.

fark the book flippers. Because you know almost any copy of New Mutants 87 or 98 signed is going right on ebay, or worse, to be CGCed.

Yeah, pretty much.  I'll give it to Liefeld on this one.

I think it would be funny if someone cosplayed as a Liefeld-proportioned character.

I was going to say god forbid he do something nice for his fans, like sign his most famous work without being a douche.  Then I realized this is Rob Liefeld, he doesn't have any fans.

Appropriate, as anyone who wants Liefeld's autograph should be fined.

This. I buy all my stuff off of Comixology now, so I'm buying for the pure love of the stories and art, since ,y purchases have zero resale value. Sticking a comic in a Lucite block to never be read again is just sad in my opinion, because it is the content that matters, not the paper.

The worst thing about his alternate Cap wasn't the chest. It was the head emblem. Captain America wearing what's pretty much a Nazi eagle on his head!?

Oh, and Bill Neville did a better Rob Liefeld than Rob Liefeld!

Apparently its a company that grades comics.  And I assume when they grade it they lock it into a transparent plastic case, so you can't remove it and flip a lesser comic in there.

Last time I went to a Comic convention, it was the early 2000s but Rob Liefeld had a super long line. If this guy had ever improved once as an artist or writer, it wouldn't be disappointing that he made more money than most comic book guys that ever lived.

2013-10-11 05:01:01 PM
Even without the snark, the guy's art sucks. How has he continued to work?

I was going to give him $10 for his autograph, but I forgot which of my many pouches I put my wallet in.

Completely with Liefeld on this one.

I remember other artists chiming on twitter about guys arriving in cons with several copies of the same comic and saying its for their family. BS.

Nice! The photo is pretty darn close to his "style," but there aren't enough barrels on the comically oversized gun. And it looks like the hand was actually drawn to hold it, instead of just thrown on later.

And the feet could be standing on the same surface. They should be pointed like a ballet dancer...

Don't alot of autographers get around that by limiting people to one item? There was some baseball player who would bend the corner of his card if he got the vibe you were being a douche. Another would only give autographs to kids.

I think i discovered where Liefeld gets at least some of his inspiration.

Saw that and immediately thought of this.

Although he really screwed it up.

/Still no explanation for tiny diamond feet.

i gave him a stack of books at a con a few years ago and had NM 87 in the middle.  he signed the top of them and didn't even flip through.  still have it.

/still have NM 98 at a grade of 9.6
//didn't want his hands on that, he has many sharp edges

As much as I am averse to Mr. Jerk-Jock In Nerdland, I would bring someone else's books to sign, just to mess with people.  I wonder how he would sign my Archie/Punisher book?

As a former comic shop employee who's given this waaaayyyy too much thought, I have two theories:

1. Liefeld is a master at 'behind the scenes' stuff; contracts, networking for others...etc
Or
2. He has dirt on EVERYONE at Image, having been there since the beginning

2013-10-11 06:12:59 PM
Why would I want the guy who RUINED New Mutants vol. 1 to sign the book he RUINED when he came along and turned the team into a bunch of his bloodpouchy assholes? In my opinion, his autograph should be considered a major way to DEVALUE any comic book.

That's almost like the guy who showed up to a con and gave Liefeld a copy of "How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way."

Is he even doing any work at Image anymore? All of the new stuff I see from him is from Marvel and DC. Image has really trimmed down their superhero books lately in favor of Vertigo-style books like Morning Glories, Mind the Gap, The Manhattan Projects, Saga, and Chew, probably because The Walking Dead has turned into such a huge cash cow for them. They are really putting a hurt on my wallet because they keep putting out all kinda of weird shiat that is down my alley, like Sex Criminals and Rocket Girl.

Well, not same comic, but same title. I know Andy Price was complaining about comic dealers once approached him to sign a bunch of My Little Pony comics... he then started saying no to the most blatant offenders.

I think the guys art is pretty terrible (well, it has gotten better actually over the years, but still... he's not one of the greats).

That being said, this is a good way to handle autographs. So, hats off to you Mr. Pouchy McPouchernofeetstien

you can always get it thru dubious methods... then purchase it if you really like it. I know it sounds bad, but that's what I do.

I was dubious about The Sixth Gun, so i torrented the first TPB, liked it so much I paid for it and the rest of the available TPBs, same with other series.

Seems fair to me.

I never understood signing. Especially in the modern era. Artists are basically giving people free money.

"Here, let me sign your book so you can sell it for hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the web while I need to bust my ass drawing books so I can pay my mortgage."

What?

Don't autographs typically cause the value to drop? Unless they were signed in bulk with the cooperation of a company that can offer certificates of authenticity, anyone can fake a signature.

No, not really. Do GIS searches on "USA eagle logo" and "Nazi eagle logo." Official USA eagles always have their wings upstretched. Nazi eagles have their wings straight out forming unnaturally straight lines ― just like Liefeld's Cap.
