Poor kid, AP, and even mom I guess. The jokes in this thread have been pretty good, but soon enough they'll cross the line.

The sad thing is, this happens all the time. It just doesn't get as much press because the kids involved don't have famous dads. We can sit here all day & question which of our social ills led to this situation. The truth is, we don't know enough about this guy to speculate what led him to beat a baby. But I hope karma is watching.

Option one will drag out for years and cost the state's tax payers millions of dollars.

Option two, about $0.75 (been a while since I've bought ammunition- but I can get a .45 for that, right?) plus the cost of cleanup.

I'll pay for option two myself!

Not always. I'm spending the afternoon alone with my stepdaughter's two year old kid. The most danger he faced was when we went to the museum to see dinosaurs.

That boy is the light of my llfe, and vice versa. When I went to pick him up I asked my stepdaughter if she was sure she didn't want him for the day, and she answered, "Nah, its ok. He likes you better than me anyway."

There is a long term bond and being married into the family for a while and there is the guy they have been seeing forabout a month.

It does and the way it's being publicized seems a bit strange to me.  I get that there's a tie to a big name athlete, but from all accounts, Adrian Peterson has had no involvement whatsoever in the child's life and has only recently had it verified that he was the biological father.  So all of the well wishes and thoughts being sent out to Peterson himself feels strange.

Because it IS his kid, regardless of whether he believed it until last week or whatever, and he is going to feel like utter shiat now that he won't even get a chance to know the kid. GoldSpider: INeedAName: Wow. You're an idiot.

So you don't think being chronically poor/unemployed puts a strain on one's psyche?

Ahh, the old misdirection ploy.

You make statement X, I point out that statement X is stupid, and then you try and point out how statement X possibly factors into Y, which may or may not have had an impact on Z.

You argue like a 5 yr old.  Seriously, only at that age would a blanket statement like 'blame poverty' be remotely acceptable. Meanwhile, the adults in the room realize that life is vastly more complex that such simplistic statements and can indeed understand that such behaviors happen all along the income spectrum.

Absolutely - a person's psyche can effect their actions. And sometimes it doesn't. And being poor can be a strain, but sometimes it isn't. Being fat, bald, stupid, tall, one-legged, rich, handsome, blind, etc... all such factors CAN play into your psyche, but unlike Rogaine commercials, I don't go around telling bald people how unhappy they should be because it effects your psyche.

Furthermore, regardless of the state of your psyche, a person is responsible for their actions. Always. You may have a load of shiat in your past, and that really sucks, and I understand how it can effect you, but the only person who chose to beat that child to death, was the person who did. So instead of blaming poverty, why don't we just blame the perpetrator of the crime and move on with our lives.

Or would you prefer to spend more time wallowing in your ignorance?

Gulper Eel: Why the hell there isn't a domestic violence registry like there is for sex offenders is beyond me.

Naw. We'd be better off spending the same money on social services, addiction and community mental health. That is if we want to actually decrease the number of instances of this happening rather than just make another list...that would ultimately become so long as to be relatively useless. Example - see current sex offender  public urinator, 19 year old dude with 16 year old girlfriend - farked up jerk who is no danger to anyone outside his own family - list and the burgeoning TSA no-fly list that has freakin' babies on it. What the fark is it with this country that we think big problems get solved with a freakin' list? Besides, there's already a list. Assault is a felony crime and a $17 background check will reveal that information as well as any other troublesome details for which said person has been adjudicated for. Ta-da - now we can spend all that silly list money on things that might actually lead to less of the thing we want to put people on a list for.

The flipside to that is, the mother's boyfriend is also a better dad than the real dad a lot of times.

CSB: My friend is the mother's boyfriend. Her daughter is basically his stepdaughter; they've all been living together for a few years. Daughter hasn't seen her dad in years and he doesn't pay child support. There was a story on Fark last year: a guy had sex with a woman, she told him she had AIDS afterward, and he killed her. That's the dad.

Exact same thought I had reading it. I can see hitting a child, lots of abusers out there. But to beat a toddler to death? To keep hitting a defenseless child till you beat their brain in? Not even human.
